My friend, most people do accept that MoD spending will reduce to zero if Scotland gains independence. To us that's nothing new, we've been discussing this issue since the 1970's, these scenarions have been bounced up and down for years. I suppose Thatcher made most of the difficult decisions for us, no longer do we have to worry about loss making steelworks, pits, car & truck manufacturers & shipyards ... Thatcher made all those hard decisions a generation ago.

And we were told then we couldn't afford independence, fast forward until today and we're still told we can't afford independence. 30 years of a Thatcherite fiscal revolution and still we're too poor to stand on our own too feet. We're too poor under Socialism, we're too poor under free market economics.

We must be the only nation on earth which can't afford anything ever, we seemingly live in this permanent state of dependency, this country of ours made of coal, in a sea of oil with some of the consistently wildest weather on earth. Yet still it's drummed into us ... "you can't afford it". It's a risible position, it's beyond comprehension.

Anyway, apologies to the OP, we're now straying well off course.

Putting aside the Scottish angle.

The 16 cell VLS could hold 64 of the Seaceptor missiles which are being proposed for this type of ship as these missiles can be quad packed. That’s quite a few missiles and twice as many of the Sea Wolf missiles carried by the Type 23.

Regards

No it is an interesting debate on what will happen to the Navy etc if/when the Scots vote for independence. I hope to see some form of military co-operation continuing at least in terms of coastal waters, this would just make logistical and financial sense.

In terms of foreign adventures I assume that the Scots will follow the Irish tradition of neutrality and or opposition to any future US/European conflicts with their "enemies" .
