Exclusive: FBI probed GOP trip with drinking, nudity in Israel

The FBI probed a late-night swim in the Sea of Galilee that involved drinking, numerous GOP freshmen lawmakers, top leadership staff – and one nude member of Congress, according to more than a dozen sources, including eyewitnesses.

The FBI looked into whether any inappropriate behavior occurred, but the interviews do not appear to have resulted in any formal allegations of wrongdoing.

But Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), who was the senior most GOP lawmaker in Israel on the trip, was so upset about the antics that he rebuked the 30 lawmakers the morning after the Aug. 18, 2011, incident, saying they were distracting from the mission of the trip.

Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was also on the privately funded excursion, which means two of the three top Republicans were a part of this trip. Neither Cantor nor McCarthy went swimming that night, the sources said. Some of their staff did.

I don't really care about the lat-night partying or drinking, or the skinny-dipping in the Sea of Galilee. It's good to unwind. But I am curious about the level of influence Israel has over US lawmakers. A junket that involved more than 30 US lawmakers and the families -- who paid for it, and what were these lawmakers promising Israel? Do these lawmakers represent the United States, or do they represent Israel?

I'm curious of that too OP.

What were our lawmakers doing in Israel, and did US taxpayers fund this trip? There is no real reason for us to even be there, that is the real story.

I'm sorry but that is gross, I don't want to think about a bunch of soft and squishy GOP lawmakers naked in that disgusting lake. Has anyone actually seen how gross that is? *Shudder*

On topic now: Is this honestly a surprise to ANYONE?

Oh em gee... Israel is greasing US politicians palms?!

Don't you know? Israel owns this country

When it comes to Cantor he serves Israel to him Israel comes first America second. The reason why these people was there is simple to receive their orders on what things to vote for.

I remember hearing about this last summer, and I was appalled by it then. Here is an article from last August... Link ...so it must be a regular event? It tells who it is sponsored by (some Israel Education lobby group) and special permission is given to this group to pay for these trips b/c congress isn't allowed to accept trips from lobbyists, according to law, except this one because they voted a special exception in for it!

Things that make you go hmmm...

Oh and I can't seem to find the list of American-Israeli dual citizenship congress-members, but I did find this, so it is probably out there somewhere...

Everyone of these people should be thrown out of office. No dual citizen should be allowed to hold public office and even Americans when voted in must swear loyalty to America. All these special rules this country has for Israel a nation we don't even have a treaty with must come top an end.

No treaty? Strange. I guess. Or do you only have a treaty with a country you've had a war with? I dunno...

Yup, that's gross too.

Sorry, I guess I will have to specify: Any soft and squishy lawmakers.

But in fairness, this is about GOP lawmakers, so your point still doesn't matter. lol

There's so much conflict of interest involved with our politicians and pretty much anything to do with Israel.

All dual citizen politicians should be removed, and if it were up to me they would be tried for treason.

Don't be surprised to find this thread buried, since this forum is full of pro-Israel trolls.

They were in the country on vacation.

Maybe I'm missing something, but going on vacation to a foreign county doesn't mean you're involved with the politics of that country.

GOP tend to be right wingers, right wingers tend to visit the holy land.

Unless I missed direct proof any form of Israeli political influence was present, that was added by OP, and no one else.

Why does being a dual citizen matter?

I don't know man, but it sounds an awfully lot like you have some kind of made up cleanliness laws for people's citizenship, and that isn't American.

You're thinking President, not congress.

Dual citizen is not bad. Indeed, it makes your life a lot easier if you do a lot of business in that country.

Germany, Switzerland, Israel, just to name a few. Israel is not the only one, but God forbid this thread look it up.

I thought that was China? Getting hard to keep tabs on who owns us. I guess the UK owns us too since Romney went there. Obama had a July 4th fundraiser in France, they own us too.

All kidding aside China owning the US is rediculous. Might as well say Japan owns the US, as they own nearly an identical amount of our debt.
