Was just outside and heard what we thought were military heli's going over. VERY loud and low vibrational sound. When it passed over..it wasn't a helicopter but an airplane. Light Grey in color small/med-ish plane with huge propellers (two of them) one on each wing. It was flying fairly low..didn't see any markings of any kind and no other colors except light grey.

Never seen one of these..so just wondering what it was and why it might be flying over southern illinois?

Scratch that, they don't have propellers.

V-22 Osprey. VTOL aircraft mainly used for US Marine operations. The US Navy and US Air Force also have variants of the craft.
Loud, ain't it.

Get used to it. They are the Marine's replacement for the old "47s," commonly called the chinooks.
