If the rich "hoard" their money then it causes deflation making the money you have worth more.

It isn't exactly a bad thing considering we have inflation right now.

Just because you "work hard" does not entitle you to First World middle class status. Success in the economy is on working smart not hard. The average burger flipper is paid more than 99% of people that ever lived, and probably more than a majority of the living population.

There really are not poor people in this country, read the studies of Robert Rector.

Why should the rich pay more taxes?

Because they CAN, and they don't need to be "rich" with their corporations (not people) and stocks (fake money)....
if they don't want to pay more taxes, they should pay their workers more of the profits.

WHO NEEDS $5 Billion??? Answer: NO ONE.

I hate 'Wall Street', I have recently decided. A huge casino; only those with disposable income need take a seat....
and those who give them their "support" in the form of buying "shares" are being duped.

If I were to play and win the lottery, or go to casinos and hit a jackpot, I would first pay off all my debts, fix my house, and then give the rest toward paying down the "debt" that the crooks have built up.

None of it is real, though. NONE of it. Except that we can't use the yachts and jets and second and third homes and fancy-assed cars to feed, house, clothe the desperate.

It's disgusting. There should be a cap on wealth. You have $1 million dollars? Cool. You have more than that? CONTRIBUTE TO THE WELL-BEING OF YOUR COUNTRYMEN!!

Greedy, selfish hoarders. Just as sick as the "Hoarders" who hoard the unsightly stuff....
hoarding is an illness.

Just saying.
We are not pack-rats. We are human beings, living in a collective, on a finite planet with finite resources. THERE IS NO REASON THAT ANYONE on this planet should be starving, homeless, naked, or enslaved.

Ghaaa.
Go ahead, flame me.
I'm not jealous; I'm disgusted.

Because they aren't actually being asked to pay extra they're simply being asked to give up their previous and temporary tax cuts. Tax cuts that were intended to further stimulate the economy before recession hit.

You can't keep feasting when the famine hits. Unfortunately Congress and two administrations in a row, from both parties, seem recalcitrant to understand this fact.

Why not start taxing the 47% not paying income tax and ending the waste of the welfare system?

The tax cuts are only temporary because George Voinovich inserted the language as a poison pill back in 2001.

They should have always been permanent as Bush campaigned on.

just stick the fork in the usa its, well done.

instead of actually figuring out how to make the country work, we just argue over every stupid thing possible.

when does the talk stop and some action begin?

Those ideas bore their fruit in the Holodomor, what gives a politician the right to determine how much is too much?

Referring to anybody in the US as a non-tax payer ( other than tax exempt entities such as charities and churches ) is misleading. Everybody pays a variety of taxes. Even those on welfare.

We are discussing only one aspect of taxation here - FICA. Temporary tax cuts are temporary tax cuts. Period. yet somehow we've managed to end up in a situation where having ones cake and eating too just isn't enough apparently.

The only reason anybody is even having this discussion is rhetoric because people began using language like "tax hike", erroneously, regarding this issue.

Capitalism is wonderful - but this is just greed.

Hey, go for it! I mostly want to be left alone, too. (I dress and have a home, though).....
Don't know where you live, but just so you know....in most metropolitan areas of the US you do that more than, say, twice and you wind up in Mental Health Court with a case manager and a therapy plan. (I used to have the "Mental Health Court" beat as a social worker. fun!)

If you wanna do it as a hermit, out in the woods all "Castaway" style, then....prolly a go!
Long as you're FREE to do it.

Oh man. I don't think anybody is going to like my answer.

I don't think that all rich people get that way off somebody's back. I do think that there are poor people who game the system for all it's worth. And they should really stop. When somebody is on unemployment for close to two years but posting on FB that they have been offered a job with their old company but they don't feel like going back yet I want to puke and turn them in. That's MY money they are wasting to sit around and play video games and I am tired of the "help the poor" people pretending that this, and a thousand and one other abuses don't happen. They do.

That said.

Rich people no longer feel a national boundary. The well being of a group of people in a particular country is no longer an issue for them. They outsource to maximize profits. I am tired of it.

I want goods made here that provided a job here.
Remember that little 70's American Flag for "Made in America"? Well, that was a pansy approach. I want a real closed door policy. Tariffs. I know that goods will be more expensive, but guess what, people will be able to afford them. We will be able to stop being at each others throats because we are afraid that this group or that are taking away the last piece of pie.

Jobs with real production value is good for the country on many levels.
Get enough of them and I don't think it will matter quite so much who gets taxed what.
In the meantime, I don't feel sympathy for moochers or outsourcers. To me they are one and the same.
Many of the very rich and the very poor operate on the same basic premise that they don't really care where their money comes from or how they get it, as long as they do.

Shame on them both.

To an extent but a pick me up for the lower classes would do good for all parties. I dont think tax is the way because the government doesnt need more than they get already it needs to go into the pockets of the people rather than the gov and the rich

You'll have to excuse me, TheCoolKids, I am not Ukrainian; and had to look up Holomodor.

I don't think politicians have the right to determine how much is too much; I think humanity is capable of realizing it is the right thing to do....because it is the right thing to do!

I don't know what "kulaks" are yet; but some of my own ancestors were victims of the contrived "Potato Famine" in Ireland.....
another political travesty.

Nono, I'm referring to a system that enables people to be successful and rewarded for their work and efforts commensurate to their investment .... OF THEIR WORK AND EFFORTS.....
yet is based on the notion that, in the words of my high school band director, "A marching band is only as good as its weakest member!" which hopefully would inspire the strongest members to mentor and coach the weakest member; not shun him and mock and enslave him.

Peace.

What you describe is the capitalist system, its perversions are those of the Solyndra type and the corn ethanol scam which is the modern equivalent of the Potato famine.

People will donate if there is a worthy cause but whining about the distribution of wealth and demanding Hollande level taxation is what the left does, fact is that I am not keen on legalizing 20 million illegal aliens and then subsidizing them so they can reward the left with permanent majority leading to the NAU.

What?

You do realize that people pay lots of different taxes, right? Actually, the system we have is "double" taxation. We are taxed when we earn it, and then taxed when we spend it...
Not to mention property tax, car registration, utility taxes, etc etc etc....

47% of the population pays no federal income taxes, but they get to vote for federal representation.

That is what the debate is about, targeting a minority group with wealth to deliver that wealth in the form of welfare programs in return for votes.

Taxation without representation is wrong, and so is representation without taxation.

This is the same left that says the obamacare mandate is not a tax hike...
