"Sorry I really believe the whole line in the movie was in bad taste.... Did they really need to go there with it in a kids movie? "

Excuse me, please feel free to explain why this was in bad taste.

Are you saying that there is something inherently distasteful about homosexuality?

oh geez.....it's just beyond silly to argue that being gay is friggin "normal"....why it happens, who knows, hormones, nurture, I don't know, but it is for the most part a "human" thing.....it involves a choice, the mind, it's very rare for animals to be gay...why is it soooo important to convince everyone being gay is normal? It is ABSOLUTELY in BAD taste to shove this down kids throats....be gay, be happy, but I will never be convinced it's "natural"..it just isn't.....

The L-word is an entire TV series dedicated to that. Before that you had Xena (Rewatch it if you have to. It's there) Buffy had Willow. Often there is complaints at using lesbian content to grab male viewers. Numbers of feature films have dealt with lesbian issues. Besides Brokeback what are you referring to?

Side note ... Normal and natural are two stupidly misused words. There are about as many gingers as there are gay people ... Unless you plan to shield your spawn from rampant rangers poisoning childrens brains, I think you will need other words.

If using the words "normal" and "natural" were hurtful in anyway....I'm sorry.....I certainly did not protect my "spawn" from her selfish, gay father, and I have gone into detail more then anyone wanted to hear on this subject in previous posts.

As I sit here and really think about "What" really bothers me about this whole subject, I realise it's actually very deep to me.....I honestly could care less how people express thier sexuality, and trust me, I'm no prude...wink...
........I would put sex up there with the top 10 most important things in life.....♫

LOL...ok...so here is where I'm going to go out on a limb and say my conspiracy theory here, why was the book of "Mary" erased from the bible? Jesus had a wife , a lover, and his best friend, she was his most trusted disiple....for some reason some very "wierd" men have made it a mission to erase the "feminine" energy from history.....but now they want to make all our Men gay....or porn freaks?

I'm sorry...I know what I'm saying is not PC......I'm sentimental about Love between Men and Women...it's sacred to me........I don't know what to say.....speaking from the heart right now.....I'm not a feminist, at least not in the traditional sense......just feel on a "gut" level that teaching kids being gay is perfectly normal is different then teaching kids to be tolerate and kind........

LOL...ok ...I have officially lost my mind......jumping on the bed, punching pillows......this is the song that I'm feeling right now....yup...twisted......take it in stride most days, but today I'm gonna feel the "anger"......then go bring sunflowers to my sister's house......make a nice dinner....do the whole belated B-day thing for her, she's been out of town getting her son off to UCLA.... but after that she is on "Grandpa" duty, I'm going to put the pedal to the metal to go see my very "sexy" Man later this week...he likes girls.......♥ And I'm pretty sure he Loves me........

Warning this song says the F word.....

didn't not even 1 generation ago, people "gasp" at people of a different "color" right here in America (a country founded through genocide based on color)?

i dont see how your struggle is a "hypocrisy" toward homosexuality just because you "gasp" because seeing two men together is personally creepy or whatever, despite acknowledging people have their rights equally.

i mean, you do realize, right, that some or many persons who are convinced they were born queer, or left handed for the matter, "gasp" or "cringe" at the sight or 2 guys kissing, or someone writing with their left hand, for the matter?

i'm a lefty, but to this day i still cringe at the sight of other lefties writing or doing stuff with their left hand instead of right. it looks alittle "queer". but, there's nothing wrong with queer, it's just different.

Wow. I really wish I had seen this thread when it was posted... S&F anyway.

I have had similar realizations about myself regarding minorities of one sort or another. I have taken tests to see just how racist I am, for example, only to discover that subconsciously, some of what I learned as a child (the negative programming) still stuck with me, even though I consciously support equality.

What we learn as children, whether it be from our parents, from church, at school, from TV and movies, or just society in general, stays with us on some deep level. I like to say we spend our entire adult life trying to heal the wounds we received as children.

I am wondering how you would have dealt with having a child who confided their homosexuality to you. Would you have bombarded with them with the knowledge that they "weren't normal"? Or, would you have told them you loved them and supported them no matter what.

I don't believe in telling kids that anything is "normal' or "not normal". After all, what is normal for one person may not be normal for another person. Being left-handed is totally normal for about 10 percent of the population, but it totally isn't normal for the other 90 percent. What I teach my child is that everyone has value and worth and deserves to be loved and respected, even those who are different from us - of course I am talking about people who don't hurt anyone. My examples I give to her are people of different races, people who have physical or mental handicaps, and yes, people who love someone of the same gender.

Of course I would tell her she was loved and supported, I stated kids should be taught to be tolerate and kind.....as you said you teach your children to be respectful of others who are "different"...perhaps this is a matter of symantics? I tend to call things as I see them, lol, I didn't think it was "normal" when she wanted blue hair, and I told her that......but she certainly knew I still Loved her, she can be a "smurf" if it makes her happy...if my daughter were gay I think I would be an easy Mom to tell actually........and I'd like to think an honest conversation about how we both would feel would occur...and life would go on......
