In relation to the weight-loss supplements, a link in the article you referenced says:
An FDA laboratory analyses confirmed the supplements contain sibutramine, the active ingredient in weight-loss medication Meridia, previously found to substantially increase blood pressure and heart rate and also linked to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

So basically (I imagine) the largest market for weight-loss medication would be for people who already have high blood pressure and heart rate (assuming overweight people), and that medication more than likely increased their blood pressure and heart rate...
This might be the time that I clear out vitamin supplements from my cupboards and start growing my own herbs and the like.
