"I ain't afraid of no one!" Screeched the big red ant.
Miss Spider smiled confidently as the ant's reply tremored through her web. "Then do come into my den." She offer again.
"Not afraid." Grumbled the ant.
"What about the fly buzzing overhead?" Asked Miss Spider.
"When her wings fall off, I'll feed her to my sisters." Replied Miss Ant.
Miss Spider, rubbing her fangs together, asked "And the frog on the lily pad?"
Miss Ant backed up a few paces and looking around cautiously, replied "I'll take his rotting corpse to my hill someday."
Looking thoughtfully around, Miss Spider spoke again: "And the worm eating the leaf on that shrub?"
"His guts will be my glory!" Miss Ant trumpeted.
"Then come into my den and show me your bravery." Said Miss Spider in her softest, silkiest voice.
Miss Ant edged closer to the web, keeping an eye on Mr. Frog as well as Miss Spider.
"I'm awfully busy today." Miss Ant spoke more to herself than to Miss Spider.
"Well, another day perhaps." Miss Spider replied, dismissively.
Spider's dismissive tone enraged Miss Ant and, throwing caution to the wind, she launched herself at the spider.
Miss Spider sat very still.
Miss Ant was within a hairsbreath of Miss Spider, then realizing her mistake, tried a mid-air acrobatic turn, but it was too late. The sticky web had
her. Struggling to get free, Miss Ant glared at Miss Spider.
"Indeed you are brave!" Purred Miss Spider, as she moved carefully away from the ant's pincers.
