One of my favorites was AREA 51
, which I played on the PS2/pc.
You can download it for free somewhere on the internet; however, my version had some kind of problem which prevented me from progressing past like
halfway through the game. Anyway, You play this HAZMAT soldier or something that gets sent in to quarantine Area 51 due to some mysterious viral
outbreak. You start out on the top levels, which are just your average run-of-the-mill offices, and you progress deeper and deeper into the bowels of
Area 51. As you go further, the place becomes more and more bizarre... until you actually encounter the greys and basically enter "their" Area 51.
Their agenda and the reason for the outbreak are part of the main storyline, and the game can be very enjoyable for anyone interested in sci-fi themed
Another game I liked was Red Faction
(the first one), a game where you take part in an uprising in
a mining colony on Mars that is ruled over very harshly by a totalitarian company.
Then of course there's all the DooM games (before DooM 3). Can't forget those. They'll never get old.
Finally, even though Starcraft 2 is a recent one, I think it deserves mention.
