They made that movie Act of Valor which was complete warrior propaganda at it's finest to appeal to the Modern Warfare/first person shooter game playing teenagers who are about to get out of high school.

I have read many of your comments. I totally agree with you. My husband spent 22 years in the Army, I spent 4 years, and my son is in his 8th year. After my son's third deployment, I too saw the light in his eyes fade. He isn't crazy, a terrorist, or a lone wolf. Just a little more wary of the bull he is being fed. I feel they are afraid of us veterans because what we were trained to do is never forgotten. Actually, it probably is the only thing they did right. Best regards to all of you!

Thanks Beezer.

This whole thread has caused me to rethink a whole lot of things, and I plan on not being so judgemental when it comes to this topic for now on.

I still have my beliefs but I should not automatically label people until I have walked in their shoes.

As another poster said this issue cannot be black or white, it's different for every single person.

I'm furious on how our governments treat our soldiers once they return, and to top it off they now consider them terrorists which is the ultimate kick in the groin. We all need to unite regardless of our beliefs otherwise we are all screwed.

Things are bad enough as it is but it's going to get a lot worse if we don't stop the people in power from walking all over us, especially our veterans.

As a veteran myself, I had to chuckle at your post.
It seems to me, the more wars we get involved in, the more rights and freedom we loose everyday.
My service in the military did nothing to protect and uphold the rights of my fellow countrymen, but to make some monsters richer, as they tramp down on those rights daily.

If you have never taken personal responsiblity for protecting your rights or the rights of others, than yes I would say you are benieth me, and every other Veteran in the world. As serving others instead of yourself is one f the highest callings in life. Making those who serve themselves only and than complain about others serving all makes you kinda douche in my book.

See it is easy to be the douche demanding their rights, as long as someone else risks their life to ensure you keep them.

Despite your mindless bablings, freedom does not come for free, it comes at the highest price of all, and is readily paid by those that are good hearted enough to make that sacrifice. As the saying goes. "If you can read this, thank a teacher! If you can read this in english, thank a Veteran.

I don't have time right now to read through the whole thread but I am sure what I have to say has already been said;

Being an Army Veteran, ETS 1999, I am flabbergasted by this insanity!!!!

I used to work in the 3rd PSYOPs Battalion at Fort Bragg and I can tell you that we were all pretty normal!! Yes propaganda was used, BUT we also made sure the other countries new, for example, where, when we were going to pass out supplies to help the civilians. Of course my job required a security clearance so I cannot give specifics, but damn........

I really hope that people do not start thinking we are the enemy.......We are not, most of us veterans joined for reasons such as, ummm, being homeless or hungry and needed some security, wanted money to pay for college, or wanted to follow a family tradition etc etc....Yeah you will always have the nutbags, but come on!!!!!!

I really hope it doesn't come down to a Veteran vs Police mentality!!! Scary indeed!!!!!! I need to get more information on this and act.....

OP: What do you plan on writing? I understand the need to write to our reps but what to say....Im in. I may be disabled at an early age, but still know how to write...

We need to do a massive class action lawsuit against the government, and trust me, Veterans are not the only ones being targeted by the government. There was a lawsuit started by The Thomas More Law Center against Janet Napolitano and the Department of Homeland Security for their "rightwing extremism report".

In the report Janet Napolitano and Homeland Security officials, as well as the White House, proclaim that a "rightwing extremist" is someone who:

Opposes abortion
Opposes restrictions on firearms
Opposes lax immigration
Opposes the policies of President Obama regarding immigration, citizenship, and the expansion of social programs
Opposes continuation of free trade agreements
Opposes same-sex marriage
Has paranoia of foreign regimes
Fear of Communist regimes
Opposes one world government
Bemoans the decline of U.S. stature in the world.
Upset with loss of U.S. manufacturing jobs to China and India
. . . and the list goes on

...
The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on behalf of nationally syndicated conservative radio talk show host, Michael Savage, Gregg Cunningham (President of the pro-life organization Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, Inc (CBR)), and Iraqi War Marine veteran Kevin Murray. The Law Center claims that Napolitano’s Department (DHS) has violated the First and Fifth Amendment Constitutional rights of these three plaintiffs by attempting to chill their free speech, expressive association, and equal protection rights. The lawsuit further claims that the Department of Homeland Security encourages law enforcement officers throughout the nation to target and report citizens to federal officials as suspicious rightwing extremists and potential terrorists because of their political beliefs.

Thompson added, “The Obama Administration has declared war on American patriots and our Constitution. The Report even admits that the Department has no specific information on any plans of violence by so-called ‘rightwing extremists.’ Rather, what they do have is the expression of political opinions by certain individuals and organizations that oppose the Obama administration’s policies, and this expression is protected speech under the First Amendment.”
...

www.thomasmore.org...

This report together with Obama's indefinite detention could mean the indefinite incarceration of Americans for having a different opinion than the Obama administration or whomever is in power...

We need to do our own class action lawsuit against those in power implementing these ideas, and laws against our freedoms before it is too late, and we can't do anything about it.

I was born and raised part of my life in a communist nation, and for some idiots to claim that I could be an extremist/terrorist because I have no love for communism or socialism, alongside the other stupid things the government is claiming, is a clear sign that this nation is becoming a socialist/fascist state.

BTW, when I say we need a massive class action lawsuit against the government I am talking about having hundreds of thousands to millions of veterans and other Americans being part of the class action lawsuit.

With these numbers the government won't be able to turn it's ugly head away from such a class action lawsuit.

This will bring at least this subject into the attention of more Americans, and could help wake them up to the realities of what the government is doing.

Thank you for posting that info, I was unaware of that particular lawsuit. I wonder what it would take to accomplish such a large goal. I do not have much of an education as far as law goes. Are there any lawers on here that might chime in on this one. I for one think that is a fantastic Idea and I would gladly take part in such an event.

ETA: I notice the law firm is out of Ann Arbor Mi. I happen to live about ten minutes away. Maybe I will take a trip to there offices when I get some time and see what they have to say.

i agree with the op. as i am a veteran. and very proud of it. i have been fortunate enough to have been there, and returned home. some of my fellow brothers and sisters, did not. i joined not only to serve my country, but to uphold and protect the constitution. i have read alot of comments here about protecting the "government",
you bet your sweet patooty i did. but before you all start to flame me, hear me out please.

i was always taught/told that the government was we the people, not the politicians. as many of us "veterans" have been protecting the government, the politicians, stepped in and claimed themselves as the government, this is not who, or what i swore to protect. the politicians are supposed to serve the people, not themselves, as it now is. now i am called a threat to society, a terrorist, a problem?? no way, we are the solution, and have done our duty. as the politicians keep changing the policies and funding of programs for veterans, and sevicemembers, we must remain diligent, and keep fighting for our rights! i see this as only another fight.

i have and always will, stand shoulder to shoulder, with my fellow brothers and sisters, fighting for not only my rights, but for the rights of those who cannot fight. if you refuse to fight, then, i suppose the rights were not yours to begin with, or you just don't understand what your rights are, and why you have them. please feel free to ask any veteran, what your rights are, and why you have them.. also ask why it is, that when they see someone using there rights, to burn a flag, of this country, why do they have a tear in there eye, or have strong views differing from it.

as most can see, i am not a writer, but wanted to chime in on this, as it is close to my heart as well.
semper fi to all of my brothers, and thank you to all of the veterans!!

Just goes to show how useless ATS is for anything other than medial research. You know, I used to love this site, but now it's just turning into a glorified watering hole. I guess we'll just have to find another way.

Interesting. First time I've seen a mod post this. Never saw anything regarding any of the many OWS's "Occupy Philadelphia/New York/wherever threads that called for people to protest at a certain time and place.

Good to know.

I understand completely. When I was married to my ex, I went to the social security office to change my name, and I was pregnant at the time. I had gone in my uniform because I was rushing that day. This woman went up to me and called me a baby killer. I looked down at my belly and just looked back at her like she was nuts. That wasn't the last of it either. I was about to leave and this woman used me as a promised punishment to her son and said "If you don't behave, that woman over there in the cami's is going to take you away.". I am not a baby killer nor am I a damn monster that takes away fussy kids. I'm tired of all the criticism that comes with the uniform. I have fought for this country for you to say those nasty things to me? Please by all means choose to protect not only your family, but a nation of 300,000,000 people. And btw, this was in 2010.

We are being vilified by the government we once swore to serve.

Do US service members swear to serve the government?

Governments come and go. What doesn't change is simple right or wrong and being true to yourself and thinking for yourself. Accepting the word of the government as right and doing their bidding is the reason we are all in this mess we are in, globally.

Blindly following the orders of government, because you have been told you are subordinate to them, is always going to end in a mess, simply because those in government do not care one jot about you. You are all simply expendable pawns to do their bidding and the concept that government serves the people is long gone.
Whining because that government now sees you as a threat is your own fault for allowing them to do so, and following their edicts without question, even fighting and killing people overseas is for them and their corporate and banking masters, and in no way can it be proven to in any way benefit the country and your fellow man.

In short, you acted as a government enforcer and now feel bitter, not about having been duped into fighting for them, but being seen as a threat now you are out. As long as people keep up this ridiculous idea that serving in the military means you are serving your country, then nothing will change.
edit on 16-8-2012 by Britguy because: (no reason given)

You are a pompous ass!

First off, you are from the country that started all this "Brit guy". Did you ever make a oath to the Queen? Your country still thinks Royalty is something worth holding onto even though they own most of the mineral and other rights across the globe because of their status and past scandals.

At least our country was great once when people were held accountable for their actions. Now we as well as our military have our hands tied. Unless we have all out war with our government we will be forced to do their bidding or risk being jailed.

You may think that you are better than us because your country houses the global tyrants that rape the world, but that will end soon. You may be called to serve your country at some point and unless you decide to make a life altering decision and leave the country forever pursued by your government across the globe you will have to do their bidding just like our soldiers do.

Just for the record, since you have no idea, when you take the oath to serve in the US Military you sign your own rights away as long as you are service connected. You can be killed by your own service-members if you fall asleep on watch. You no longer have any rights to your own body. You are military property.

PTSD is very real. You may want to argue the fine points of a "Disorder", but you are missing the point. It "IS" a disorder and is very much connected to serving in a stressful situation. Another cause can be a car wreck or other traumatic event. People who survive shipwrecks have the same thing to deal with. Nightmares are common. I have them almost every night.

If you want to know how to take back your country,
Webster Tarpley has outlined a plan of action.

You need to take off the liberal or conservative
glasses though for you to see the sense in it.

I will also add:
1. Immediately look into the 10th amendment to curb
the central government.
2. Dont vote for either Obama or Romney.
Boycott the vote, vote for another party or write in candidate to slow the whole
mess down to molasses.

Too bad though people didnt listen to all
those warning so many years ago. By so many people.
Now, as the stink from the crap that hit the fan,
is coming in your own home, people want to take
action. But it will be much harder now. The stink
has already been settling in.

Either way, meh. I've learned to hide my veteran status for almost everything, I've seen the scorn people have for me when they find out I've served during these wars and I don't care to see those looks anymore.

Best of luck, fellow veterans. Our country values Internet bloggers more than your, and mine, service.

I have tried to use it for "veterans preference" when filling out applications, but it hasn't helped much.

It did come in handy when qualifying for a certain privately held insurance company that was created for service members. I won't state their name because I'd get slapped by the mods. You other veterans probably already know.

SIR I agree with you %100, I myself is not a veteran. But I have a lot of friends of mine that were lifers, I myself do the home front. I have been a Volunteer firefighter for 39 years now, and yes I worked two weeks at Ground Zero in NYC!
I thank You for your service! Anyway a couple of my friends first one a Marine for 30 years with silver star 3 purple hearts have been screwed blued and tattooed by the VA , he is short by like %25 of his disability pay and I have been helping him since he retired.
We also wen trough a lawyer, had to his first submissions for over a year nothing happend, when he would call they kept saying they were working on it.
To find out this AHOLE he was dealing with did nothing, he was taking files and just dumping them in a draw.
It was not just him but hundred's of other Vet's that needed the benefit's worse than him!
We helped get him caned, I could go on.
But The underemployment for vet's in CT. is bad, and home less!
I work with the wounded worrier project and try to help the best I can and will continue so!
Now I have friends my age and their kids are overseas, I pray for them all.
All I can say is keep up the fight as I will pass this on to my buddies.
