Well, this would be my first post.
. Approx 30 seconds ago (it's now 5:52pm here), I heard the rumblings of what I *thought* was a jet engine. The windows started shaking, and I took a peek outside to see what it was. I did a 360 degree turn around, and couldn't see anything. I kinda expected to feel some kind of wind or jet blast, but there really was none. The rumbling lasted for almost 20 seconds, and I am SURE it was not a jet. I'm calling up a few friends now to see (it was headed to the Pudong area, if anyone knows where that is).

I don't want to raise a lot of fuss over nothing if it was just some military jet. Thanks for your answers in advance!

Edit: Friend in Pudong felt/heard/saw nothing. Checking Puxi friend.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you and your friends discover.

I think this is your culprit here:

2004/10/12 07:18:38.7 40.0N 75.7E 80 mb5.0 A MIX KYRGYZSTAN-XINJIANG BDR REG

You close enough to feel that? 5.0 mag quake just happened.

That'd be a logical explanation.

According to this site, China has NO MILITARY base in the Shanghai area. Also, Xinjiang is in the west. I'm in Shanghai-- on the east "bund." Do you know how far an earthquake could be felt?

That would be a link to a map. I'm not sure whether feeling this from such a distance is possible, but you know best

That's a long way to feel a 5.0 waternorth. I'm kind of dubious of that.

hmmm...but I'm wondering if there could have been a small tremor in your area

Distance between Shanghai and Quake. Must have been my imagination. Also, my friend in Puxi felt it. I *assume* that it's just the blasting that China's been doing to make room for buildings. Sorry to make a fuss over nothing.
