This is something that's been really bothering me....

Living in a major city up here of about 1 million people. I grew up here. And now in recently years you wouldn't believe the amount of things I'm noticing.

It scares me to even post this. But I figure it's got to be said by someone. Like the amount of crazy things being implemented in and around the city is JUST NUTS.

So I'll cover a few of these items to give you a perspective of how free things use to be, as compared to how there going...

1) TSA at our airports and body scanners (within the last 2 years approx)

2) Mini police stations the size of retail stores, in malls, strip malls, apartment buildings, like all over. Use to be just main ones in each side of the city.

3) Red light cameras in many places

4) Strange new cameras at intersections that are permanent

5) Strange new mini cameras on intersections that's a new thing they're putting everywhere.

6) To get into the local fair you now get a pat down by police. Same with some other major events

7) Police patrolling major streets that are popular hang out places

8) All kinds of strange types of police cars. There marked as follows: RCMP, Police black n white, Police just white, detectives in unmarked cruisers, detectives in unmarked trucks and SUV's, police motor cycles

9) Photo radar in unmarked cars and trucks and mini vans everywhere and anywhere!

10) Tons and tons of new laws like if you're going too much over the speed limit they can take your car. etc etc etc.

11) Police helicopters flying around

12) Check stops much more often and frequent

13) Lowered breathalyzer so if you even have one drink you could get a DUI

14) Baggage check and patdown to get on the greyhound bus

15) Police much more frequently entering bars to check people's ID's

16) Police riding bike around everywhere and at any kind of event

17) Bi law people driving around in all kinds of different vehicles looking for any kind of violation to fine

18) Census checks where they come to your door annually to have you fill out a long document about who's living at the location (census my azz! it's the guestopo we all know this up here)

19) most pay phones have been taken out. So it forces you to get a cell phone. Another great tracking spy device assigned to you personally.

Like these are just what I can think of off the top of my head. All this stuff is new, like within the last 5-10 yrs max. Some in the last 12-24 months. It's madness, shier MADNESS what's happened to our city.

I'm just glad I'm almost 40 so I won't be around for long enough to see what's yet to come. Id actually like to live in a small town just to avoid this madness that's going on. Like it's Nazi germany come to life and right in your face.

Like this is no joke. Same thing happening everywhere, even worse in some bigger cities. Like we're basically following suit with the US in becoming a police state. Like it's out of control, and only gonna get worse. We're basically doomed I know this already. I just can't believe that Canada's freedom has completely gone down the toilet. It's just so sad.

You sure you didn't just accidentally cross the border into the US?

These are all things that we've been dealing with down here for a long time.

You are barely scratching the surface. Lets not forget the g8/g20 and the brutalization and imprisonment of THOUSANDS of innocent people.

. All our scientist have been gaged by the government and need approval for any pubic comments or all funding will be cut off, your position will be terminated and anything you've ever done that could damage your reputation will be accidently be released by the government including medical records to destroy your career.

Public Safety Minister Vic Toews trying to sensor the internet by declaring "either you support censoring the internet or you support child pornography"

Building new prisons when the crime rate is going down.

Ministers altering official documents to benefit their agenda.

Gotta keep you safe. All of these measures are for your safety. Being a US citizen, let me be the first one to tell you, the amount of violent crimes in the past day have been significantly lower than the past month.

Crap, just checked Fox news. I retract previous statement. Maybe tomorrow they will finally implement the gps chip in all people to finally stop all the crime!

Sarcasm, off.

1) TSA at our airports and body scanners (within the last 2 years approx)

I have traveled Canada more than 99% of people. Never noticed this at all.

2) Mini police stations the size of retail stores, in malls, strip malls, apartment buildings, like all over. Use to be just main ones in each side of the city.

These have always been here and are called outposts because of the land mass.

3) Red light cameras in many places

20 yrs ago. Nothing new.

4) Strange new cameras at intersections that are permanent

Same as above.

5) Strange new mini cameras on intersections that's a new thing they're putting everywhere.

Same as above

6) To get into the local fair you now get a pat down by police. Same with some other major events

Never experienced and I have been to 10 outdoor events this summer.

7) Police patrolling major streets that are popular hang out places

Always been the same for a long time. Called street patrol.

8) All kinds of strange types of police cars. There marked as follows: RCMP, Police black n white, Police just white, detectives in unmarked cruisers, detectives in unmarked trucks and SUV's, police motor cycles

Always been here. Called unmarked cruisers.

9) Photo radar in unmarked cars and trucks and mini vans everywhere and anywhere!

Many years

10) Tons and tons of new laws like if you're going too much over the speed limit they can take your car. etc etc etc.

Never heard of one instance.

11) Police helicopters flying around

Big Country and they have always been there.

12) Check stops much more often and frequent

Traveled from East to West 2 times this year. Not stopped once.

13) Lowered breathalyzer so if you even have one drink you could get a DUI

Many years and differs from province to province.

14) Baggage check and patdown to get on the greyhound bus

Never heard of this...at all. Proof please

15) Police much more frequently entering bars to check people's ID's

Always happened. Just say no.

16) Police riding bike around everywhere and at any kind of event

Called security at large events.

17) Bi law people driving around in all kinds of different vehicles looking for any kind of violation to fine

Proof please.

18) Census checks where they come to your door annually to have you fill out a long document about who's living at the location (census my azz! it's the guestopo we all know this up here)

I say no. They go away.

19) most pay phones have been taken out. So it forces you to get a cell phone. Another great tracking spy device assigned to you personally.

Payphones are disappearing BECAUSE people want the latest cell.

Are you Canadian? young? waking up? paranoid? misinformed? looking for what isn't there? Fear mongering? Looking for stars? Flags?

You are apparently living in a different Country than I am tho. It ain't all good but certainly it isn't what you describe. Look at my threads and I am usually the first one to call conspiracy and encroaching police state.

Although some of what you say is true, it's nowhere near how you paint it. But give it time.

Peace

Just not by anyone at the convention...

Are you out west? I've noticed he same in London (Ont) and it's less than 400,000 in pop I believe.

Get your PAL, buy some guns. Be a law abiding citizen and enjoy your "privilege" to arm yourself, if only for the sake of being armed.. Then practice with your firearms and influence those who you trust to join in the fun at the range. Spread the word, level the field. Arm yourselves, you honest, trustworthy, polite, respectful and cordial Canadians. We deserve a citizenry which is strong and free, we've earned it.

I must be on some list, or something....every damn time I take a flight, I always get the enhanced screening process, I have seen more and more people getting checked out on the highway, and larger police presence on the streets. I am also on some stats can census list. I have to go through an interview every six months, it takes about 30 minutes and they state if I don't do it, I will be charged.

I sort of agree with your post, but have noticed increase in security guards and these things:

helicopters flying over the neighborhood frequently, we get strange vehicles out front as well, and won't go into the englsh accented, tall over 6 feet, dark blazers, apparently mormon missionaires, with FBI eyes that knocked on the door close to 9 pm, and who I sent away, only to notice a black blazered blond woman at the back of the property really craning her neck to glimpse me when I lept behind the mattress that was going to be taken out.

But here:

City driving around looking for an excuse for trouble, yes, we've noticed an increase of this.

And, as for their laws to steal property for violations, I believe that is point 10 its unlawful and unconstitutional so if happens to a person, and they don't have the money for a good lawyer, getting pro bono help from idealists, and tackling this whole unlawful stuff will be important. And needs to be done.

The only time I might bare arms is if we enter into a post apocolyptic era where its' the wild wild west again. Even then I wouldn't rely on the gun. He who lives by the sward will be die by the sward.

Well it's just getting a bit hair raising, that's all I can say. Like it started to dawn on me that say you're driving across the city somewhere. How do you know you're gonna make it? Like it's that nuts. You might not actually make it without some harrassment, or photo radar ticket or something.

My friend moved to a small town. I'm really starting to like that idea. I think one day when I'm going to retire I'm gonna do that too. Just move to some small center where there's less of this madness.

By the time it deteriorates into this type of a situation it will be FAR TOO LATE to acquire a firearm. The sad part about Canada are the uneducated and ignorant that live in the large urban areas that arrive at misguided conclusions regarding firearms. Some Canadians I have spoken with when I used to live in Toronto honestly believed you could walk into your local Canadian Tire store, purchase a shotgun and ammunition and walk out with it the same day.

My values and beliefs are so drastically different than Canadians that live in a city like Toronto you would think I lived in a completely different country. Yet what takes place in cities like Toronto and Vancouver, gun crime for example, dictates firearm laws for the rest of the country; it's a disgusting situation and needs to be addressed. My guns are used to feed myself and my family, to have fun at the range with friends on the weekends and for defense of self and property. The ONLY gun incidents that have taken place where I live are by the idiots from the city that head up here to party during the summer on the weekends. Only a brain-dead troglodyte from the city would bring an illegal handgun to the beach.

I was in Toronto for a week last month and I didn't notice anything different than usual regarding these "new" "Police state" items you mention, and I am very weary of Toronto police now after the G20 summit fiasco. I will make sure my interactions with Toronto police any time in the future will be based solely on my rights as I will offer no information to them other than my drivers license, insurance and proof of ownership if I am in my vehicle. They deserve ZERO cooperation from citizens.

Many private stores, property owners, buildings, condo's, factories and home owners are now installing security camera's all over the place as doing so is now a requirement for some insurance policies. There's also quite a few security companies in the Toronto area that use similar vehicles as the police. The largest collection of publicly funded camera's are those that are owned and maintained by The Ministry of Transport and the last time I heard they have hundreds monitoring the highways and some large roads for safety purposes.

Red light camera's are a great safety measure and something I fully agree with. A-holes that run red lights will one day kill someone; the amount of people killed each year by people running red lights is unbelievable.

Photo radar was introduced by the NDP in Ontario back in the early 1990's and it pissed so many people off that it became an election issue after the fact. Photo radar was removed by the Mike Harris government after he was elected and hasn't seen the light of day since.

Here's a great idea, go for a walk with your camera and snap a few photo's of the "police state" "items" you think are out there and post them in this thread, I'm willing to bet they can be explained, camera's and vehicles especially.

I agree with every last thing you said there.

The one that popped out at me was the Greyhound comment. I don't use Greyhound much, but never had anyone "search" me, or do anything of the like.

Other than cops now acting much more like wannabe UFC Champions, nothing much has changed in the last 20 years.

I also agree with Jude11, most of those things on that list have been around for years. Decades even. Especially in the larger cities.

The Greyhound bus searches probably came about because of the beheading that happened a few years ago on that bus.

That was tragic.
