I think the damn parents should arrange to fly with them. As for the airlines they get paid hefty fees for putting UM's on the planes. Basically all they do is make sure they get off and on the plane safely. Perhaps the rule needs to be that one needs to buy the next seat over if you are flying a UM.

When I was about 12 years old I flew to New York City by myself and they happened to seat me next to an older guy. It turned out the guy was a semi-pro football player on his way to NYC for a training camp or something. He was one of the nicest guys I've ever met, we played paper football and shared jokes. It was to this day the most entertaining time I've spent in an airplane.

It's a shame that if that were to happen today, they would have asked him to move out of fear that he might molest me or some such nonsense.
