Ecuador to Grant Julian Assange Asylum

After weeks with his fate hanging in the balance, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is about to be formally granted asylum in Ecuador, according to a news report.

Ecuadorean president Rafael Correa has agreed to give the WikiLeaks founder asylum, according to an official in Quito who spoke with the Guardian newspaper.

This is a victory for the cause of transparency and openness in government, in my opinion, and I hope Assange can find a way to continue doing what he does in his new Ecuadorian home. It's curious though because Ecuador only has dial-up from what I understand, and WL is hosted in Sweden; does this mean he is essentially going to be cut off from leading the organization?

I also wonder what if anything will be done against Ecuador to retialite, it cannot have gone over well with the US...
