Violent youth riot in France leaves 16 police injured

PARIS—Dozens of young men rioted in a troubled district in northern France after weeks of tensions, pulling drivers from their cars and stealing the vehicles, and burning a school and a youth centre. The police department in Amiens says at least 16 officers were hurt by the time the riot ended Tuesday, some by buckshot.

At the height of the confrontation, 150 officers — both local and federal riot police — faced off against the young men throughout the neighbourhood. There were no arrests.

“The confrontations were very, very violent,” Amiens Mayor Gilles Dumailly told the French television network BFM. Dumailly said tensions had been building for a number of weeks between police and the impoverished residents, whom he described as “people who are in some difficulty.”

Will it be another episode like in 2005 ?

In 2005, violence raged unchecked for nearly a month, leaving entire neighbourhoods in flames in far-flung suburbs that are home to France’s housing projects. The violence in Amiens marked the first major unrest under Hollande, who took office in May.

It feels like the whole world is going mad.

people (in general) are getting more and more pissed off everyday, for a multitude of reasons... This isn't the last event of this kind....

Remember London... anger is a chain reaction, and as long as long as people have been taking a 10 foot rusty pole from their governments, you can expect that some day soon they're gonna get it back.

Police are gonna get attacked, government buildings are gonna be stormed. It's just karma.....

It's 2012. I have a bad feeling that this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Wait until November or December I think that's when the nuts will be coming out of the woodwork.

The violence in 2005 was sparked by police brutality, or perceived police brutality, this is something different. The whole of Europe is a tinder keg right now, just waiting for the right spark to set it off. The massive unemployment and just lack of money in general is bring a lot of hatred and anger and frustration, and with no end of it is sight its beginning to boil over more and more.

The problems that have arisen in Greece and Spain are spreading like tendrils through all of western Europe and fires will burn in all major cities. Unlike many though I don't really see this as a good thing, all revolutions usher in tyranny for the foreseeable future, the defining periods after a revolution are always far worse than the regime before it. Look at the French revolution or the Russian revolution for evidence.

The only revolution that did not end up in worse tyranny for for the people was the American revolution, however that is quite unique and more to do with it not being a real revolution, it was the overthrow of an external controlling countries government with a clear agenda from the start and genuine leaders paving the way. There are no such leaders in the world. The Strangles said it best in a song written way back in 1977, "No more heroes any more"

I don't know, this doesn't feel like anything new. The arabs of these neighborhoods do this often. They terrorize the other inhabitants, they attack the police, they burn cars. The only reason that can be established is a claim of «ras le bol des jeunes qui se sentent exclus de tout». ("young people fed up with feeling excluded from everything" source ).

This is a fairly common occurance in France. It is why much of the french feel they are being terrorized and taken over by the young arab population. We have a problem with the second generation of immigrants. Cultural identity and resentment is a problem for them. They have not been encouraged to integrate the society, because of the religion, which doesn't allow for laicism or secularism. So they want to be part of their environment, while also rejecting it violently, as their religious values teach them they must do.

This is a continuing struggle going in France. The french, very concerned with human rights and compassion for the oppressed, are being completely taken over by them, afraid of seeming racist by taking any action. (the injuries that happened in this event were police, and no arrests were done).
For those who are really into the whole "poor oppressed need to rise up against authority" thing- keep in mind that the other inhabitants of those buildings, (old people, french and arab, children, etc.) are the victims of these events. Their cars and buildings and schools are being destroyed, they are living in fear, and the police are too bullied to save them.

Part of the problem is that the young Arab French population has a religion that teaches them that they are distinct and superior to other groups in society, yet doesn't emphasis hard work, scholarship at school or entrepreneurship.

Hence, they feel they are superior yet quite clearly are not. Anger and resentment are predictable results.

Look at how successful the Chinese and Indians are when they move to another country.
