How could they avoid symbolism?
Symbols work best. The organizers had to come up with visuals that could be easily understood by literally any person on earth.

That the best you have?
What was to happen, happened, and all the ones who claim that NOTHING happened can go back to sleep now.

...The lore surrounding the Phoenix bird has countless variations, with some of the earliest accounts dating back to eight centuries before the birth of Christ. The bird traditionally lives near a cool well which it visits each morning to bathe and sing. It is a stunningly beautiful bird with an entrancing song, captivating enough to make even the Sun stop to listen. If the Phoenix is injured, it can heal itself and enjoy a life span of 500 to more than 1000 years.
The Phoenix lives a long life, and then is consumed by flames, only to immediately rise again from the ashes. This mythical bird is surrounded by folklore and legend.
The beautiful scarlet and golden Phoenix bird is synonymous with rebirth or recovery, especially after calamity.
Originally from the traditions of ancient Phoenicia, the Phoenix has a counterpart in many other cultures.

There is symbolism but it's not covert it's used at the end of every games. It is done as part of the handover ceremony to symbolise the end of the current Olympics & the birth of the process for the next hosts, this time Brazil.

Give us your Hypothesis on what it means OP. What does the Phoenix represent? You seem to be the expert with the symbology of the NWO. What other NWO order signs were there or are we all too deep asleep to realize whats right in front of our faces. I hate being a sheeple who can't read the signs.edit on 13-8-2012 by woodwardjnr because: (no reason given)
