I watched the video and it looks like they took him away before giving Ryan a chance to respond. The blood pressure remark was in bad taste, though. AND he could've stopped security to listen to what the man had to say. Oh, dang, Ryan...

Yeah, Ryan showed total unconcern for a concerned citizen. Very bad karma, man, just showed disconnect and disrespect.

No. A mealy mouthed big mouth got put in his place. When that happens, we make jokes.Thats how it is.

Oh BTW, just saying.

That's why people like you aren't in office, and people like Mr Ryan should be kicked out. Total disrespect for the public. Just sayin.

Seniors at this level are like children, they need our help, we must be very patient with them.
I don't really blame the VP nominee for his comment, I blame his upbringing. He's had too much time out , and not enough discipline. I checked the JST, and Exodus 20:12 is the same as King James, and most other versions. I'm surprised to see this type of disrespectful behavior from the Romney camp.

Ryan's "joke" is what really is off putting to me and shows a glimpse of where his mind is. Those words bubbled up from his subconscious and his conscious mind chose to use them and he chose to put down a citizen in front of his peers.

What also gets me is just not too long ago we had complete town halls shut down because of seniors expressing themselves and congressmen and women afraid to even have town halls to begin with over the health care spectacle. I bet the same people defending those peoples 1st Amendment rights are some of the same that are now saying this particular 71 year old man was just being disruptive and should have had his arm twisted and shown the exit. How convenient it is in this instance to label people that are fed up as "liberals" as a derogatory term dehumanizing a citizen in order to claim superiority.

I wonder how many seniors with legitimate gripes that could have seen this play out chose to keep their mouths shut. It is things like this that send a chilling effect and only allow certain people to control the narrative. Better not speak up or you will be arm twisted, grounded and cuffed then made the target of a joke.

I beg all you gun owning Americans to use them to eliminate the scum that is destroying not only your country, but the rest of the world too.

That is outright abuse of power, in any nation. No way in hell should someone be arrested for speaking out against corruption. I really hope that I live to see the day when American people get a set of balls and finally enact their constitution and rid themselves of their oppressors.

actually the video is quite clear, when he was grasped by the forearms, he looked a bit shocked, beaten, and bemused...This was not a man bent on making an incident, this was a man who heard what we all heard, that the 'problem is entitlements'. He popped off no different than the rest of us with a backbone would have done, 'hold on, .....(insert argument).'

Hmm, you just said, 'we didn't see what he did outside, he could have such and such'....well, you don't have video of him before, he could have been sitting there quietly listening attentively, nor do you know he just walked he, could have paid his hard earned money for a plate.....Can't have that both ways.

That is what you define as a 'loose cannon'.....wow, i am impressed, he was no way a loose cannon, he was loud, but not aggressive, he wasn't flaying around in a threatening manner, he was stressing his point in an emotional way. As most would when they are retired, they have nothing left because their 401K got stripped by the wall street guys, the bankers, the government allowing them all to do it. You reach 70 years old with one last life line left, and tell me how you would react.....Thank you for your input

For the dozen or so posters that have repeated the FALSEHOOD that Ryan's Plan would only effect those UNDER THE AGE OF 55

REP. PAUL RYAN: This is as gradual as it gets. We don't affect the benefits for people above 55 years old in Medicare. [Your World with Neil Cavuto, 6/2/11]

FACT::

"Path To Prosperity" Reopens Medicare "Doughnut Hole," Forcing Millions Of Seniors To Pay Higher Drug Costs "Immediately." From the National Journal: "[T]he GOP is doubling down on the idea that today's seniors won't be affected. That's partly true. Ryan's plan to convert Medicare into a limited insurance subsidy, the most controversial aspect of the budget, wouldn't take effect until 2022. But the proposal would also repeal last year's health care law, which means reopening a coverage gap in Medicare's prescription-drug benefit that the statute closed. The gap, commonly called the "doughnut hole," requires seniors to pay 100 percent of any prescription costs after the annual total reaches $2,840 and until it hits $4,550.

So otherwise...the rebuttal to Ryan's quip, "I hope he took his blood pressure medication"??? If Ryan's plan passed it would be unlikely that man could afford to

FACT:

GOP Plan's Cuts To Medicaid Would Affect Seniors Immediately

9 Million Seniors Receive Medicaid As Well As Medicare. From the National Journal: "Some 9 million seniors qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid benefits, and about two-thirds of all nursing-home residents are covered by Medicaid." [National Journal, 6/3/11]

Crazy old man needed to be subdued before he hurt someone. I'm sure he got exactly what he wanted. After all here we are all talking about it and some are demonizing Ryan, as if he had any control over the situation.
The circus is in town again my friends, Get ready for a never ending flow of hijinks and hilarity from both sides of the political aisle.
Everyone will feign outrage and shock over various media reports and Youtube videos and then it will all be forgotten when the election nonsense is over. Don't you love being a puppet?

Who Was Paul Ryan’s 71 Year Old Victim?

August 13, 2012 By Sovereign Voice

Many people were out-raged about an article published a couple of days ago about Republican Congressman Paul Ryan cracking a joke as a 71-year-old man was shoved to the ground by police officers for simply speaking out at a rotary club luncheon where Ryan was speaking on his “Pay to Play” budget plan. More information has since come out on who the senior citizen is, why he spoke out and the response of Congressman Ryan.

Tom Nielsen, originally from Denmark, immigrated to America in pursuit of his piece of the American Dream and became a citizen more than 50 years ago. He speaks with a slight Danish accent but has worked in America all his adult life, paying his share into the system. He is a retired union plumber and lives in the small town of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Congressman Ryan is his representative and having heard rhetoric that demonized unions and speaks of his retirement benefits as “entitlements”, Neilsen decided to go listen to Ryan himself. The only public appearance Ryan had scheduled in August was a luncheon at a rotary club in Greenfield, so Tom bought a ticket for the luncheon and went to hear for himself what his representative has to say.

What he saw at the luncheon was very different from what he expected. Two people found themselves under arrest for speaking out at the luncheon and Tom watched in dismay as 20 others were forcefully escorted out.

Correct!....It wasn't just the 71 year old man...and it was more than two!

Ryan had a Pay-Per-View town hall and had people asking the wrong questions escorted out and arrested!

If this happened at an Obama event...the right would scream "Hitler" "Nazi's" "end of our Freeedoms!!"

At a Paul Ryan event???...Those folks asking questions? They deserved it!

VIDEO FOOTAGE OF THREE FOLKS BEING ESCORTEED OUT...I can understand why this "71 year old man" lost it after watching his fellow citizens being dragged out of the room for asking questions of thier elected official!

VIDEO FOOTAGE (AT THE END) OF THOSE FOLKS SITTING IN THE BACK OF POLICE VANS CUFFED

The event happened in the fall evidently. People seem to be treating this as if it happened yesterday. The article you cite calls the man a victim of Ryan, yet fails to mention the man's complete lack of decorum and subsequent removal after yelling. In light of other scenarios where women resembling certain radical activists also had to be forcefully removed after punching volunteers in the face, it is almost amusing to see the liberal spin on this stuff.
And Annie let us not forget that there is an expected decorum enforced here at ATS and people are removed or banned. So where's our free speech? Is it on this forum? Is it at a Town Hall event or campaign rally? Is it in front of the White House or Capitol? You tell me?
I have noticed that a number of people here have supported the wild behavior of OWS and somehow seem to expect all politicians to put up with it in their events. I have also seen you object to free speech concerning certain pet issues of yours and I think you are applying a double standard in terms of your support of free speech. In other words, it's when you want it and for whatever issue you choose.

It was a private function. Freedom of speech is limited within the confines of PRIVATE property.

Much like I can remove you from my house or business if I don't like you.

The people did not adhere to the rules of the PRIVATE function.

Now, how about that woman that rushed the stage screaming at Paul Ryan? Or the issue that she supposedly punched someone one the way up to the stage? Any issue with her actions?

Probably not.

I know when it happened. Why does that matter? Its still the same guy - same attitude.

The article you cite calls the man a victim of Ryan, yet fails to mention the man's complete lack of decorum and subsequent removal after yelling.

I did not print the entire article. The man watched another person arrested and 20 people escorted out - - with Paul Ryan making tasteless derogatory comments about them - - before Paul Ryan's chosen word of ENTITLEMENT - - - urged Mr. Nielsen to speak his mind.

And Annie let us not forget that there is an expected decorum enforced here at ATS and people are removed or banned. So where's our free speech? Is it on this forum? Is it at a Town Hall event or campaign rally? Is it in front of the White House or Capitol? You tell me?

Seriously? Can you come up with any more excuses?

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Yes, it was a prearranged, orchestrated disruption of a meeting. Shockingly, the invited speaker and hosts were not amused. Although Ryan tried to play it off with some off the cuff observations that weren't appreciated by the "free speech" squad. The quotes there are to indicate the group that advocates free speech for themselves, but would gladly and forcefully through disruption, deny your right to HEAR something they don't agree with.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Yes, and there was reported punching volunteers in the face as well at that one. Ryan was apparently having to deal with a lot of flack in the fall when his proposal was in the forefront. It is easy to see that people from the labor unions were opposing his views. The man in this vid was a union member as it states in Annie's article. Remember all the havoc the unions created in Wisconsin? Even a million Tea Partiers at Washington did not produce this kind of mayhem.

Nielsen was/is a union thug. He got an arse whoopin'. Looked mighty fair to me. Seems the lefties tend toward throwing fits when they don't get their way, 'tis a shame.

Look, ain't this the same state that had all the maoists take over and trash the capital building? That was Feb., 2011.

Is this not where Scott Walker resides, where these same knuckleheads attempted to dethrone him? And the voters went to the polls and the rest is history?

This dude was out of line, clearly out of line, and dealt with accordingly. Maybe the sympathizers here can take up a collection and get him some blood pressure medication

That tape was so obviously edited. Nice Try.

And why does everyone bring up Social Security as an entitlement program? Social Security and Unemployment people have paid into, it's an not what Ryan is talking about. Entitlement programs are food stamps and welfare and all the benefits the govt gives out for free to people who leech the system and never pay into. It's like that friend you have that always bums money off you to eat out or see a movie and never pays you back. Yet somehow they can afford an Xbox and all the latest games.

More lies. As you can see from the other videos posted, this was an organized protest from a group of radical lefties that were hell bent on interrupting a private speaking event.

The old man (dang i wish we had his name, demeaning just referring him to as 'old man') said, 'i paid into it' that is social security, you pay for medicare, you pay into social security.

Read the Ryan Plan yourself. He doesn't strip away Medicare benefits for 71 year old's. Even Democrats in his own district understand that.

And how is it that Ryan gets re-elected year after year in a primarily historically Democratic district? Because he's fighting for rational logic and sense in government, stripping out the unnecessary spending on bloated government entitlement programs.

Former Clinton Chief of Staff, Erskine Bowles, had this to say about the Ryan Plan:

“Have any of you all met Paul Ryan? We should get him to come to the university. I’m telling you this guy is amazing. ... He is honest, he is straightforward, he is sincere. And the budget that he came forward with is just like Paul Ryan. It is a sensible, straightforward, serious budget and it cut the budget deficit just like we did, by $4 trillion. … The president as you remember, came out with a budget and I don’t think anybody took that budget very seriously. The Senate voted against it 97 to nothing."

Yeah, more lies. Now we see that this was an orchestrated protest and attack against Ryan by a bunch of radical hippie leftists. Nice.

That is what you define as a 'loose cannon'.....wow, i am impressed, he was no way a loose cannon, he was loud, but not aggressive, he wasn't flaying around in a threatening manner, he was stressing his point in an emotional way.

He was a loose cannon. He was loud, vocal, disruptive, and threatening. He should have raised his hand politely to ask a question, and speak in a calm tone. Instead, he was aggressively interrupting a private speaking event with his actions.

I am glad the police arrested these people. These protestors should be ashamed of their actions.
