Does anyone else feel like this?

Since I was a child I've wanted to understand things, been curious about how things work. I've wanted to understand the world we live in, was interested in things I always sort of thought were important to everyone.

But I'm learning more and more that this is not the case. I asked a few co-workers during a tea break today if they'd seen the images of the martian landscape taken by curiosity...they didn't know what I was talking about. I'd a conversation with one out of about 8 people who'd heard of it and had seen a few images.

What irked me most was some idiot who I don't even know piping in stating "those pictures are years old!" as if it were I that was the fool. It's not just science and exploration, everything...I always thought pretty much everyone cared about who and what we are, where we came from...about creationism, etc. They don't.

Quite the opposite, it seems most people nowadays don't even ask themselves such questions...and seem to clam up when you attempt to discuss such things or question who they really are and what they really think. People used to care more, I wasn't alive at the time but often hear people speak about the moon landings, the excitement it all generated...with the current mars mission, more seem keen to play it down and find problems with it, whining about the cameras, etc - neglecting to realise that it's an amazing feat and one of the greatest things mankind have done on a universal, not global scale. People celebrated the olympic opening ceremonies more...which cost about 25 billion more than the mars mission and was staged right here on earth...pathetic..

It amazes me that people are more likely to know what hollywood crap is currently showing or what's on television tonight than they are about the real, important things that I feel should matter to us all. It annoys me that I often feel that it is I who have the problem, asking awkward questions and being curious enough to want to actually learn and understand new things.

I know it's a bit of a rant, just want to get it off my chest. I suppose if there are people who think and feel like I do then a large number of them probably frequent ATS and sites like it.

Why do people care more about watching television, getting wasted on drink and other substances, what their hair looks like and how they are dressed? Is it conditioning of some kind? I understand that everyone is different, not everyone wants to learn to play the trumpet...or be a long distance runner, but I feel everyone should, to some extent, care about who and what we are, the true nature of reality, the universe, etc. Why does nobody care anymore?

Anyone here feel this way? I bet a few probably do, I kinda feel the people who don't care and just want to enjoy their life, being selfish and carefree are a kind of anomaly. I don't mean to sound nasty when I say that...to me it has always been a fundamental characteristic of human nature, the will and determination to advance. To me, a human not caring about the nature of the reality we live in is like a lion deciding it no longer wants to eat meat.

Be nice to hear thoughts on this, am I wrong to think people should care about this stuff? I'm just wired to think and look at the world a certain way, just because I think it don't make it so...but still, it bothers me.

YES @ times 1 does. I just feel sometimes many have gotten so comfortable with life they don't ask questions anymore about why or how they got it. I don't get mad at them though because I know it takes a certain kind of mind to be able to seek and then frequent sites like ATS for information ect. I do however feel bad for many of those I do take time to talk to about things that I may feel are important and CAN help them better themselves. Usually I just PRAY for them to in time WAKE UP ( maybe they have to experience CLASS/life more in order to gain the interest level of some who may have taken many classes due to being ignorant of things that may of been important IN PREVIOUS CLASS). With that OP don't let it harm/bother you too much YOU MAY POSSESS A LIGHT THAT IS JUST SHINING MORE THEN THEIR LIGHTS right now, their LIGHTS THAT MAY BE DULLED OR SMUGGED WITH ALL THE IGNORANCE MANY EXPERIENCE IN THIS MATERIAL WORLD of class-expensive clothing-coolest expensive phone-tv-car-house ect.

You seem similar to me, always questioning, intuitive, and realizing that the reality you live in is not the actual reality you see.

I think its just a Gift of ours. Being able to see past the mundane into the extraordinary.

Atoms and their interactions fascinate me to no end. Not that im a physicist by any means. But just the way electrons move, Quantum-wise. Or the beauty of a baby growing into an adult. Cells mutating. The countless stars. The immensity of the universe.

The fact that it absolutely BLOWS my mind, and no one else can see it, shows me... how the world has been "created".

People live their day to day lives engrossed in the mundane. That idiocy (kardashian, iphone98789274) is so prevalent in the lives of those people that they cannot see beyond it.

Trying to show them the hidden facets of reality is like having a blind man of 40 SEE for the first time. Reality overload. They cannot handle it. They fight it. Conspiracy...

It used to absolutely bother me that i was the only one that could see the beauty (or one of the few). Ive learned to sit back and enjoy it. Nurture my mind. My life. And when someone else is ready. I'm ready to point them in the right direction. Or what i think is right. Which is relative. And i could be wrong.

I am with you 100%, I recently ranted about it too and it fell on mostly deaf ears even here.

The world has become so vapid.

I understand those that have it hard and are struggling to survive...of course they have more important things to worry about.

It's the average to rich who just care about shopping, drinking, how they look what's on tv etc...even my own family who I used to think cared about the world and more important matters have given in to it. They just want to have fun, go to the movies, the casino blah blah.

Don't get me wrong I am all for a good time in moderation, but I want to know what's going on around me. I want to learn about the world the universe, keep up on politics, science whatever I can.....I have fallen into such a state of depression over it because there is no one to have a conversation with....I am just met with blank stares or rolling eyes....I CAN'T TAKE IT!

A few quick responses and almost instant clarification that I'm not alone...as if I needed it.

I feel people are often embarassed if you ask them something substantial, their spiritual beliefs for example. I often wonder if it's a result of the education system as well as social pressure. It's like it's cool to not care or shameful to want to know who and what we really are and how we came to be.

I was always curious, as a kid I wanted to know more how my toys worked than to play with them, often I'd break them open, take them apart and re-assemble them and stuff like that. I liked watching documentaries and liked puzzles, was quite creative and still am It carried over to adulthood and I'm still the same, in fact more so.

Plus, we're privileged in ways people never were before, information at our fingertips...but people care far less nowadays about what's really happening and where we're going. I find that kids tend to care less...and I feel it's a growing trend among us humans to focus on the mundane and be selfish,ignorant and carefree.

I hope we never die out, that's the day we'll cease to make progress. Thanks for the responses.

I feel the same or have felt the same way. People notice the things and circumstances that directly apply to them for the most part . If someone makes an observation, I like to find out the core of an individual`s reasoning. Why people think the way they do and blindly believe what they are told without question. But if we were all alike, it would be pretty boring.Ive been told I think too much.

It's lonely at the top...or the bottom...I forget which one it is for me. I recently had a small get-together with some people I haven't seen in years...and was instantly reminded of why I had stopped wanting to spend time with them years ago.

It's tough. Family, friends, co-workers...I'm just worlds apart from everybody I've ever known. There's gotta be some more interesting people out there in my corner of the globe

I just hope there's a special place in heaven for ATS members to discuss, troll, and disinfo each other haha. It's the most stimulating human-cyber-interface relationship I've ever had.

You know I think I've just identified the heart or source of the whole matter, it's technology. 100 years ago people were excited about the things that were happening, the advances in technology. It must have been amazing to grow up back then and seeing these amazing new machines appear...automobiles, radios, phones.

We've become so attached and accustomed to the things technology has given us over the years we don't marvel at the genuis of most of it any more. Imagine travelling back in time and giving Alexander Bell an i-phone. We don't care about how these things work any more, we're far to engrossed in other things like the fun and entertainment the tech provides...which I guess is kinda the point of it.

The progress we've made over the last 100 years has been amazing, is there evidence of any other species on this planet making such amazing progress?

We've created a monster and it's eating us, it's eating our curiosity...we don't need to wonder because hollywood tells us, the television tells us, our phones and our video games tell us what reality is like nowadays...people can sit at home and fly a spaceship in a realistic 3d HD environment.

Some of the greatest advances we've made are making us its slaves and we're allowing it. To me the internet wasn't an entertainment powerhouse, it was a huge, online library where one could check many sources and be objective...to learn and communicate. To the average joe these days it's for watching porn and downloading films and music.

Life has an intrinsic ability to create a multi-faceted consciousnesses.

Meaning, we have a different reality for each and every individual on the face of the planet. What is epiphanic to one may not be to another. Different lives and thoughts and relative understandings.

We weren't meant to all believe the same thing or understand the same ideals. How boring life would be if everything was perfect and we all understood everything. What would be the point? It would be a little stagnant if you ask me.

All of our lives culminate to our Past, Present, and Future. Ever changing. This life is Constant in Change if nothing else.

Embrace the change and your life might be more at peace when others Won't or Can't understand what we see.

One murders another so that the family can understand loss. Or helps another to understand Charity. Or anything in between.

What we can't control we try to understand. Through understanding we realize we don't know Diddly-Squat.

I get what you mean, but it's not like I think everyone should know or understand everything. As I said, some want to learn to play the trumpet, other want to run long distance.

I just alwasys thought we were wired to question reality to learn and progress, like when the first primitive cavedude learned how to use tools and create wheels.

I don't expect everyone to spend their lives trying to learn about the universe, or to send rovers to mars...but the idea that people are completely uninterested in these endeavours kind of mystifies me. You made some good points though, thanks.

You have education, entertainment, and society in general to thank Sadly, I feel like you.

I'm not all that interested in the mission though, as if we don't have more urgent tasks on this planet first... However, in general, I do believe we are similar.

A personal example I often use is that when I tell my friends I like gardening (growing my own food) they look at me like I'm crazy, or poor, or weird,... 50 years ago it would be the other way around.

I'd type 3 pages but I'm on a tiny keyboard and have other things to do, but just wanted to confirm that you are definitely not alone

that is exactly me, surrounded by the unassuming dolts.. always having to correct someone for saying something completely false that they just heard on the news, so it must be true!

I live my life in a state of constant detail analysis. Without it, I don't know if I could go on..

Spot on...I know lot's of people who actually don't have any interests. It's bizarre to me, their lives are basically watch television or play video games, or get drunk/wasted, or eat, or sleep. And that's pretty much it, they equate having an interesting, meaningful life with going out and getting wasted at every available oppertunity. Once, every so often I'll have a little blow out and get drunk...because I'm a crazy, wild guy! Heeeey! I'm not really, it seems binge drinking is more acceptable in modern society than having interests or a hobby of some kind.

There are still some people who want to learn and have interests, I feel these types of people are becoming fewer. Like you said, it's like people think you've a screw loose if you like doing something that idoesn't end with you and some mates getting smashed and acting liked the cast of jackass for a few hours...where all the best times you ever had are the ones you can't remember because you were legless.

My bag was programming, I was an oddball because to me a computer and the internet was for educating yourself. it was for the curious who would read about and share new ideas.

I enjoyed reading your post and I'm glad you shared your story. I went through a similar situation at home today (similar to your co-worker paragraph) and it was refreshing to find that I, too, am not alone.

Maybe you are just understanding people more? People can live their whole lives without ever noticing social engineering the way you have. Take it as another thing you have noticed, and subsequently learned about.

And to answer your question: Yes, somedays I feel exactly as you have described, and I have noticed that there is one thing you just can't learn: How to make someone see the world through your eyes.

Like the poster somewhere above said, every person on earth lives in their own world. That means that it is up to us, as individuals to make our world the best that it can be.

Wow a post I can relate to! I was starting to wonder if I WAS the only one left here! I feel as you do, as it never changes for me since childhood. Always the ODDBALL, just could not really see through THEIR eyes; as the world turns, forgetting the most important thing, LIFE.

In my eyes, people don't seem to care anymore. The world, other people and even OUT THERE. I would rather go back to when it was bartering, farming, and people working togetter. Somewhere we lost the point to living life understanding things as they are, not as we want them to be.

Of course, most people see me as nuts. I've come to the fact that the day I face MYSELF/GOD I gave it my best! We all fight within ourselfs, now it shows outside! Thats what is happening to the world right now. Everything effects Everything PERIOD!

Maybe someday we will see this and move on to a higher understanding! Or worst case is we missed the chance and become exterminated by our own doing. LIFE as I understand it GROWS or DIES so another PART of LIFE has its CHANCE at it! Just how long we have that chance I see is ENDING SOON! This is what I think & feel, anybody else?

This morning, it was a guy simply flicking a cigarette butt out of his car. This is a common practice among smokers, but do they ever consider that some of us don't appreciate the litter or the potential fire hazard? They spend all that time stinking up their vehicles, but they can't take their butts home with them? How arrogant.

Thanks for that input, a new perspective on it and I suppose it's only natural for people who think and feel like me to make this realisation. It's something I've slowly watched sort of unfold before me, everything becoming more atrificial and predictable...I suppose it's part of life for most people, and a few simply ignore it and get on with it.

It's not that I think peoiple are braindead morons in general I think they'd rather just put it aside in favour of having fun and being all for the self, the here and now.
