Oh you thought the headline was perhaps senastionalist? Taken out of context?

The American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer has sunk to a new, disturbing low with his anti-gay statements. In two separate tweets last night, he called for an “Underground Railroad to deliver innocent children from same-sex households.” In one tweet he was referring to the sad story of Lisa Miller, who, after declaring herself ex-gay, kidnapped her daughter away to Central America to prevent her former partner from having any custody. (She is still being tracked by federal agents as a fugitive of the law.)

Now that's from a source I would normally just call on the far right, or far left of social propaganda. And ignore any other nonsense they talk about other than this specific piece of text above, the purpose of this conversation.

It doesn't surprise me that crazy, extremist people make these sorts of statement in public and really think it's ok. I'm not really bothered by the Fred Phelp's of the world and their hatred.

What concerns me, is the complete and total lack of outrage from the same side who are moderates. Who I would think are more intelligent and concerned with the actual problems of the world, instead of non issues like sexuality.

I think we'll all agree that kidnapping children from their respective parents, who have done nothing other than be different in the eyes of some, is insanity.

Why do we allow extremists to represent us? Why, if the majority are moderates and we all very well know our numbers are greater than theirs, do we remain silent?

A culture of apathy exists within our collective society. One that allows for injustice and insanity for comfort.

Apathy is the current universal human condition.

Very few people are willing to take the time or heat to step out and stand up to or for something.
At least we have social media... perhaps it is time that the true believers in Christ try to do something to stop Christianity from burning down every bridge ever built between the church and the unbelievers in the world?

Something to consider... might be time to take up blogging. Perhaps. But I still have my own questions to answer.

Any suggestions?

Apathy, it seems is correct.........

This is insanity. People seem to be spinning more and more out of control everyday. Even just having this lunatic say this is going to prompt some attempts. Each one of these attempts should be punished to the full extent of the law.

Apathy is a major problem and we dont seem to have an answer. Either they have already won the war for our minds and we just dont care as long as they dont take our HD TVs, Coco Colas, and microwaved dinners. Or you and I and everyone else on ATS is truly some fringe lunatic group full of daydreamers in search of a utopia that doesnt exist.

This is truly upsetting.

There are two sides to every revolution. The 'activist' side and the 'information side'.

Spreading the good word is just as important. The internet ends up being convoluted however and isn't the most effective way of passing information. Only because of the disinformation that exists.

Then again, maybe more people working at it could stem the tide of disinformation.

Going out in your community however, being active at public events and trying to change the minds of people is always the first step in any peaceful revolution.

In the UK twitter is becoming more and more policed (as evidence is easy to gather). Some top examples:
- twitter to Tom Daley that was not nice was arrested
- Rio Ferdinand tweet charge

Indeed both cases show that the line for what tweet is unacceptable in the community and what is chargeable by law - seem to be quite the same

I've voiced my opinions in the recent threads on CFA and the storm brewing around that but kidnapping? That is $#@ insane.

I agree it's high time that Christians worldwide "take up the cross" and go to town on all the FAKERS out there. You know who you are.

I'm not sure if it is apathy or exasperation.

Personally I have found that there is no reasoning with people who take this extreme "right" point of view. Their argument always boils down to the same rhetoric, and usually ends with an ugly accusation.

Fortunately we have moved into a state where they no longer "burn us at the stake" for taking the opposite point of view, and we just sit back in the shadows, educate our young and silently undermine their efforts to bring us back to the dark ages.

As long as they are being abused by straight couples, then it's ok

Some extreme conservatives will actually argue that being in a loving same sex home is the same as living with abusive straight parents, alcoholics, drug addicts etc..

Sometimes they will proclaim it worse. At least that is what their ideological statements and hopes would allude to.

In my opinion. Their ideological statements and hopes, are nothing more than thinly veiled hatred. To consider ripping a flower out of a healthy garden, because your imagination sees possible weeds....well...it's insane.

Well then...there's something that Christians and Gays share in common. Just because you're one or the other, or any other tag one might assume, that doesn't preclude the possibility of serious rectal/cranial inversion.

Don't put this on Christians. Just give him credit for being the dangerous arse that he is.

I am not so sure I agree this is exclusive to the 'extremist Christian'.

Okay I know that statement ruffles feathers, bare with me.

If extremist is to be defined as acting out the belief then exclusive to these extremists it is.

However. The amazingly sad profound truth is it's common for anti-gay Christians to believe in no instance would it be better for a gay couple to raise the children over a heterosexual couple. That's an extreme belief. And this essentially is that belief acted out.

I think you'll find that this is all somehow tied into the gay agenda - Hell, they probably hacked his twitter and put those comments up!

But yes OP, ive noticed the same lack of outrage by moderate followers of chirtianity and that leads me to believe they silently believe in what he is saying. Ive yet to see a christan publicly speak out about how much hate their organization is spewing in modern times.
