No proof or reading material to add to this, hence skunk works.

A friend of mine is in the coast guard and just returned from a patrol, we discussed getting together this weekend, but i just received a text from them that they are going back out on a secret mission (patrol) till the end of the month. i know nothing more then that but with all the other stuff going on this month Olympics, and other recent military movement, thought it might be of some interest to at least a few of you. keep you heads up and eyes open.

If you're going to post something like this, it would be helpful if you gave some specifics, e.g. location, type of coast guard unit, any other additional information. If you don't have it, or don't want to divulge it, what was the point of your post???

Youmight just as well say "I think it might rain this week..."

This is the UK unarmed coast guard we are on about right, Might be all or nothing type off exercise, Are your friends class of boats fitted with ground rescue radar ? Have heard off this type off exercise before involving using thermal imagery to locate hot spots on vessals, Could be that now that we do not have a "proper" R Navy (cutbacks) and the goverment are relying more on voluntery help from the coast guard. Just my thoughts DD.

Is he coast guard or RNLI ?

it is a cutter stationed in the great lakes.( port huron) All she could say was that they are going out tomorrow and gone for the month on top secret mission. Wish i had more to add, but i don't, like i said just thought id throw it up here. I know its not much to discuss but im always interested in any sorta of military movement so thought i would share just to keep in the back of your minds if you hear of any other interesting bits to add to the overall picture this month.

Also i think it might rain next week. with possibility of sever isolated thunderstorms. some where in the northern hemisphere.

if it wasn't a secret mission i would have plenty of info, tho would be less intriguing.

Found this going on for a month starting today -- not very top secret though. But, it did seem to come about quickly..i.e. not much notice.

The Coast Guard is establishing a temporary safety zone on lower Lake Huron, Lakeport, MI. This safety zone is intended to restrict vessels from a portion of Lake Huron during the preparation for and salvage operations of the Arthur J. dredge vessel.

operation poses a significant risk to public safety and property. Such hazards include accidental vessel collisions, potential fuel spills, and potential diving operations.

Thank you for adding that info. Like you said doesn't seem very secret tho. Hopefully its just to catch some illegal fisherman or drug smugglers, and not canada invading

I will add more if i hear anything of substance, also will be digging around on the net to see if i can come up with any thing.

The point of posting it is that it might be useful information to tie something else together at some point. That is pretty obvious as the OP pointed it out. Your reply contributed to the subject how exactly? Or did you just feel like bieng rude at everybody elses expense here?

Have you got any speculation as to what it is she's doing? I know she didn't give you any more information, but, based on her previous missions and such, can you add any details?
