More madness going on in Spain:

Spanish parents to be charged three euros for packed lunches

Crisis-hit Spain is to charge parents for sending their children to school with packed lunches.

A daily fee of up to €3 (£2.36) will be introduced when the new term begins next month. The charge — which reflects “the relative cost for the use of the dining room and the supervision that entails” — has been condemned as “barbaric” by parents.

Just about the only time people revolt is when they are hungry, just look into what sparked the recent revolution in Egypt and it'll become very clear.

Is a revolution what Spain needs? Perhaps, though it will leave the country very weak and suspect to proxy imperialism.

then when all the supermarkets close because they can't pay their employees, then what...? they raid my house, kill me and take my food?

well done, if the aim is to be dignant as they rip each other apart.

businesses are barely surviving here. They do this to a few more, and they will cause thousands of people to lose their jobs. dominos falling. Then entire populations go hungry. Who will open if they know they will have their merchandise stolen?

then what? yeah....more silly illogical and pointless theft.

There are some places where they give away food for free to the people in need. Vegetables, bread and basic things like that, but I think those places (as far as I heard) are privately managed and not by the government.
Local farmers and small store owners whom give food in support. I have not heard about any of the bigger food chains helping out.

I can absolutely not understand why people would not be allowed to take food that have been thrown away!!

Instead of throwing it away and looking it up, they should give all the leftover food to these food shelters(I guess it could be called that?). Why the h**l throw away food!!!

What infuriatese is the portrayal of Greece or Spain as somehow bad. The enemy in all this are the banks who conspired with small groups of politicians to legalize printing of counterfeit money and then "lend" to governments and stick taxpayers with the interest for money that never existed in the first place.

The most sickening part are the multimillion dollar bonuses just sitting in Swiss bank accounts while innocent citizens are starving. This is the greatest crime in human history.

I completely agree with you.

How much more money can the UK pump into the system ? who knows.

The Whole of the UK government is corrupt to the core as well as many other governments across the world.

They tried to portray the Greek people as lazy, and fell for it.

the translation isn't right 20 carros is not 20 trucks. 20 carros = 20 shopping carts. The people that were to receive the food are not taking it because they say it was stolen.I'm in Spain right now.

How can anyone stand by and allow any percentage of their country to starve or suffer, like ritual sacrifices for the greed of the few. EQUALIZE WITH FREEDOM. Find the way to do it in the best way for both things and not the governments way.

I am now going to bed and wlll crying for all these people and all people, I cannot bear that no one get it. People need to stop working, and take to a general strike.

People who have need to sell big homes and create eco farms in such large numbers no government could stop them and start creating energy and food.

Spain are actually leading the way in renewable energy, and if they continue to grow in this area, in the long term this will lead to economic recovery. The chief problem with the Spanish economy if it's dependency on imports, particularly materials needed to produce energy. If they were to mobilise the workforce in a concerted effort to, as you say, create more energy efficient means of growing produce too, then they would be able to release themselves from their trade deficit by increasing their export position in terms of both energy export and produce.

Of course, in large areas of Spain, climate change, is having an impact on the water table, so one way or another, they need to find better ways of using that otherwise useless land. But, either way, I agree with you entirely, and Spain, if it can overcome the water issue, could really turn itself around in this way, and in such a way that would benefit not only the people, but also the overall economy.

THey're still waiting on an artificial economy to recover. A house of cards, something foreign to the earth and to life on earth.

If I was the government of any country, immediately, I would find a way to generate some more revenue, such as establish a national bank with low interest, all countries should have their own banking systems, with low fixed interest, that goes to revenue for programs, or a lottery, or a small increase in the top 15% of the wealthiest, some way of getting real cash, and immediately (on whatever is called crown land), build some large eco farms to house the homeless and families.

I would make sure that there was separate ones for those who are homeless or dysfunctional either with mental illness and or/drugs.

Put up inexpensive housing, get volunteers from community to raise roofs, (may even need to have big festivals and music events to raise more money), and put up very warm insulated yurts, move onto cob homes, that are not built with wood, but recylced woods and things, and earth, renewable fibres such as hemp, etc And huge greenhouses.

I would make it illegal to demo any building without recycling the wood and glass and doors and all useful things that could be used in eco farms and cob homes and for others, it would be held and distributed freely to all who needed it.

And alternative energy.

They could live all their lives there, no taxes on land, people would have the right to live and grow food and still have medical service, because in reality, they would costing the medical and prisons sytem far less, per person.

1 homeless person costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, a huge amount, according to our BC government study years ago.

I would implement price control on the necessities, food, housing, energy. All people to get off the grid.

I would replace all oil and gas stations, every car would be required to be modded to electric and their choice of methane, biofuel, HHO. And the government bank would issue no interest loans to all who had vehicles, and there would be alot of apprentice mechanics being hired overnight.

There are solutions.

Just building those aquaponics greenhouses and delivering weekly food to people in abundant amounts would be a start.

And setting aside land where the homeless could have homes on wheels, tents on wheels, and yurts erected would be a start.

I would not be waiting on the economy to recover. PRO ACTIVE. FOR THE PEOPLE.

robin hood...ok...What happens when the supermarkets close down and those people working there can't even feed themselves....?

What happens when they all close out of fear....angry mobs running around looting and causing mass hysteria...?

This is the beginning of the end here....they are still talking about rescuing the banks....INSANE!

This is just insane...I have no words.....well, I do. The union organizers protesting down the street at city hall better not get any bright ideas with my place...this captain goes down with his ship.....

they are so corrupt, and on top of it, they now organize looting....great.

Meanwhile the city of Gerona is promoting a pilot plan to close the containers with locks that are close to supermarkets and prevent homeless seeking food. As indicated by the general secretary of the SAT, Cañamero Diego, who was present at the action of Arcos, the municipality in Cadiz, about 200 union members entered a super markets and took basic food to fill 20 trucks with food staples-milk, eggs, sugar, vegetables, pasta or rice, with the idea of them to a food bank in the area of the Sierra de Cádiz, 'where there is a 40% unemployment and extreme poverty is at a rise,

Further solutions from government, if I was in:

---disclosure to all people, and truth about ensuring people are in who serve others, and a system of protections to reduce the risk of foreign attack but ensure the people never vote for bloodlines and only for each other.

---encourage those with fancy homes to sell and set up eco farms for their family and others by entering into a partnership where there is no taxes, grants for their children/grandchildrens student loans, and help to build homes that were for others and the green houses. Eco farms where everyone has their own land, and home, say 1/3 acre and its private, and they have lifelong ownership of it.

---laws that prohibit companies from producing shoddy goods that breakdown constantly for profit model and exploit earth's resources.

---funding of small buisnesses, and partnerships with the monopoly pyramid system dismantled and true free enterprise and equality, grass roots businesses and services implemented.

---No forcing people but educating from grade school on that contributing from our talents if we're able to keeps society going, and to have programs that help people to either training, (all university free or low cost), jobs in health/education, businesses, OR their own businesses. That people would be worked with, outgoing, shy, no winner take all, dog eat dog competition, its safe to be you, and you are valued just the way you are, this is the message to chidlren and to those seeking work, that they will be accommodated.

---Raise all minimum wages.

---Reduce and control all necessities like in Norway.

---Create grass roots businesses and educate people to choose products from others who have integrity. Don't buy from companies that take resources to other countries and exploit them but buy from each other, (true free enterprise), buy from the guy who has integrity and isnt an elitist wanting to have poor desperate work force.

---Make monopolies illegal in media, on airwaves, tv, in workplaces, never allow pyramid systems.

---Don't tax people until they're middle middle class even and then start very slow. Create other ways to generate revenue for the country, from lotteries to banking systems, and plug loopholes so wealthy corporations pay taxes, and go up to 50 % for the super wealthy.

---Introduce guaranteed income where everyone gets a tax rebate, some more, some less depending on their family size and whether they have income, so eliminating the need for a variety of services, they can all be one thing, and eliminate long waits. Ensure all are above the poverty line for their family size.

---All of this would work with or without a monied system by the way, it works either way.

If a country isn't rich in natural resource it can become rich in food, in farming solutions, energy solutions and sciences, and products none the less.

---With huge tax purse from healthy businesses everywhere, with the emphasis on grass roots businesses and more people are employeed in small businesses than large, overall, statistically, the tax revenue would be good.

So contribute to the third world by setting up eco farms there, government showing the way, and homes for the homeless children.

Make it illegal to buy products from child labor, ie under 12, and they would have to prove the children are just getting references for future, and hobby money very part time because they're in shcool and have lots and lots of play time.

That would mean coffee and cocoa and alot of our productgs would be replaced by Fair Trade and enviromentally friendly alternative solutions.

There is no excuse for sitting back, letting people starve and playing the world economy game, hoping it will recover and the UN will win their quota on a few more depopulated along the way.

Now since governments aren't doing the right thing because they're bought off slimy toads
though they still expect wonderful perks and benefits and pensions, though I really don't see why, as they're not doing the job they were hired to do, and betraying their oath of duty, and serve and protect to the people.

SO.... people need to think in the terms I just gave and really run a system under the government and do so well at developing managements skills themselves, working with others and finding solutions that they don't vote for those guys anymore but only fro their own.

The land owners can share land, lease some or donate for yurts. And especially a few of them doing that aquaponics solution and off grid energy for everyone.

People can sell fancy houses and set up this for others.

People could organize locally to start small businesses and help each other, and ensure the healthy unemployed (while not taking care takers away from young children, really valuing families), and students, in school, and not just the popular ones, but all of them, every single one, including the shy lacking in self esteem ones, can start to practice their talents, contribute to different businesses and develop themselves. we have the power to really help each other, without tons of red tape and fascist big brother methods, but because we're decent people.

And force all those city bylaws and licensing schemes to be overturned. No limits on the competition. They tell you, no you cant put up another store like this because there are too many, or give out monopolies on things, to force people into scarsity and to control who is the business owner, and to ensure we have to buy from corruption.

No, stop it. Free enterprise, no monopolies. I want to choose who I buy from thank you very much and I won't buy from slimy toads or anyone who downsizes people, pays minimum wage, hires the sharks and doesnt provide work and training to all the students in the school, if community groups ensure trial placements of all,and lots of feed back and help, and move kids around so they can really find what they're good at. I would only buy from hero's. Grass roots people and those who are their friends.

I've always seen t;he solutions, both what government should be doing and what people always need to do, locally organized, to watchdog and create better solutions.

There is no reason for any of this scarsity/slavery crapola. All nations can live in abundance with both Equality and Freedom/Empowerment of People, being respected and entrenched.

Let me share this tid bit straight from while I was working as the Store Receiving Specialist at a retail baby store here in maryland. Part of my job duties were to inspect items returned, items expired, and any damage to product packaging. What I saw really astounded me.

The Policy on boxes of diapers, if the box was damaged in any way, it was to be marked in inventory as damaged. The barcode was returned to the warehouse for proof, and all 150 or so diapers were to be thrown in the trash. After I saw this, I began to place them in the mothers room that we provided to care for their children. I noticed they were returned to the trash one day and I was called to the managers office, where I was confronted with tape of me walking those diapers inside the mothers room and leaving them there. This man proceeded to fire me for disobeying company policy. This also occurs with formula, sodas, water...freaking water...where is the expiration date there??

Why couldnt this stuff be given to people that need it. I even offered to use my own car to take it to a shelter, and was refused as its not company policy.

I wrote multiple letters that were never responded to before I got fired. I even contacted the local news about what I considered an outrage...and of course no response there either.

What is wrong with the world.

some interesting responses here....

I think we are all in agreement that the mandatory waste we are forced to create out of perfectly good things other people need is insane.

I am completely in agreement there as well. I would never accept any excuse for throwing away things that can be used by people who would themselves go through the trash just to get at them.

I talk to people here all the time about the coming locks on the garbage. They can't understand it either.

I don't think anyone thinks it is a good idea....SO WHO THE HELL THOUGHT OF IT!!!!

it takes a special sort of sadist to make people go hungry and not even let them have garbage......

as far as the other responses suggesting ideas for Spain....you guys have more between you than all the government here.....they worry more about face and tradition than doing what is necessary.

Inadaptable, hard headed, spiteful, and going extinct before my eyes......

the sort of necessary change for Spain will be hard met and might cause our hot blood to boil....it's great for fending off a wolf or a bear, but horrible for compromising and making society stay functional....

I am at a of for words with this still......

I wish more people would have the opportunity to start their own business so they can help out in the same way our grandparents helped each other........all I know is that if you see someone hungry you give them food. You help them. I am almost going out of business here but even I can give a decent sandwich and a juice to a hungry person.......and when something is going to go bad....before it does I give it away to my customers....there is no need to throw food away.

there is just no excuse for these huge very profitable corporations to not give away something back.
when we don't have it we will remember how foolish we were to throw away things that later we will kill each other over.

What so many of you fail to acknowledge is that taking something that is not yours, is wrong. Your reasoning although noble, falls apart with just a tiny bit of forward thinking.
I know you will defend your view, and through some form of moral higher ground be unable to accept any other view.

Taking what does not belong to you is wrong......period.
If it is that bad plant a garden or start a farm or go fishing....but do not lower yourself to stealing.

If you advocate stealing from the store to survive
next comes the big house down the road
and when their shelves are empty.....it becomes the guy next door
and when he is picked dry you will take anything you want from anyone who has it
and your belly may be full......but your soul will be empty
