another thing people don't realize is that here in Spain....if you steal less than 300 Euros of products or services you can't be arrested...

you go to the police station, get your information taken and then walk out....you can then legally go back to the same store and try it again and they can't throw you out.

most places look the other way if you take food. they don't like it but you don't have to starve.

this is propaganda for the unions since most people feel they are disconnected from the worker and are hyper political instead of being oriented towards the common people.

EDIT:
oh, every Spaniard gets a monthly check even if he didn't work a single day in his life...they want to eliminate it and will, but up to now, many people got at least 500 Euros just for being born if they have no income. That is about half a monthly salary now. sucks either way since you can't live on that, but with the squatters rights the way they are here( you can't touch them, or kick them out even if you are left homeless because they chose your house), and that....people don't have to starve....they just can't take vacations and be lazy, which I am ashamed to say is the case here. people in Spain are a little lazy and self absorbed.

problems of socialism.

then when all the supermarkets close because they can't pay their employees, then what...? they raid my house, kill me and take my food?

well done, if the aim is to be dignant as they rip each other apart.

businesses are barely surviving here. They do this to a few more, and they will cause thousands of people to lose their jobs. dominos falling. Then entire populations go hungry. Who will open if they know they will have their merchandise stolen?

then what? yeah....more silly illogical and pointless theft.

I would agree with you if the companies they are stealing from are actually local businesses. But I would suggest that the majority are not, they are part of larger corporations guilty of funnelling money out of communities to tax havens, then paying a minuscule amount back in the wages they pay their employees.

This is the fundamental problem here. It's the continued extraction of wealth. The biggest example of it in retail is probably Wal Mart in the USA, but the same thing has been happening all over the world for decades.

The money no longer stays in the community, corporations have destroyed local economies. Wealth is systematically syphoned out of communities, and it's time that river of money was damned up and stopped. If the governments won't do it, then the people will.

What will happen if this Robin Hood movement spreads? Maybe it will rebalance communities? Perhaps those who are made unemployed will make deals with local farmers and open their own local business? There are a lot of opportunities here, and all it takes is some moral people to take the step and replace those failing corporations.

If people in your community had the choice of whether to shop at a corporate store or buy from a farmer in the community, which do you think they would choose?

the problem with that statement though is that people have become so enarmoured of the state providing that they lack the basic ability to do something like that for themselves. People seem to forget that their resepective countries 'borrowed' money from the banks to keep said populace in the life they had become accustomed to, now the easy flow of money has been restricted people are complaining, maybe people should have complained earlier when their government was borrowing just to increase the level of entitlement

Thats a major falacy my friend.
We didnt borrow to keep ourselves in entitlements, the goverments borrowed to keep themselves in major entitlements.
The Military budget, the trappings of power, the limos , the huge pensions for goverments...etc etc.
Thats a big chunk of what got borrowed.
People get very little of the money the goverments collect. The banks take in interest far more than the origonal loans....
I would say if one looked at the numbers, the countries who are in arrears have actually paid the debts and are still paying off the interest.
The whole conept of banking is badly flawed in favour of the bankers, who have used the excesses to purchase the rest of the world....virtually every major corporation.....
\\\\\\\\\\the whole works are in bed together to keep people ignorant of how they are getting screwed.///////

To keep the military project, are you having a laugh. go and have a look at this www.ukpublicspending.co.uk... Then come back and tell me it was to keep the military, looks more like pensions, health and welfare are our biggest drains on the economy.

so i stick with entitlement programs. Dont even think of getting me started on the bloated and out of date NHS

Since states usurped all the rights and freedoms, it is up to states to make sure people have to eat. Or else...
There is no excuse for this situation on the side of state.
Once you are hungry, your thoughts get a totally new direction. And that one is really predictable.

You shouldn't think like that. Everything adds up and everything makes a difference to someone.

Just because the problem is so big and you can't assist everyone, doesn't mean you shouldn't feel proud of helping someone.

Agree, if everyone had this attitude, no one would give to the needy. Everyone should help when they can.

I have a feeling this will kick off very soon.

This may turn into another Greece who knows ?

I really feel for the Spanish people and guess it would be the same here in UK but our ability to magic money from nowhere keeps us afloat.

What infuriatese is the portrayal of Greece or Spain as somehow bad. The enemy in all this are the banks who conspired with small groups of politicians to legalize printing of counterfeit money and then "lend" to governments and stick taxpayers with the interest for money that never existed in the first place.

The most sickening part are the multimillion dollar bonuses just sitting in Swiss bank accounts while innocent citizens are starving. This is the greatest crime in human history.

When you have no job there is plenty of time to research what a racket central banking, fiat currency and fractional reserve lending are. Soon enough the bankers won't be able to give the money back to save themselves from the angry mobs of people who have been swindled.

Besides, what's the point of being rich if you need armed guards to go out in public? In order for the Royalty/Serf political model to work, the serfs must be able to feed their families. There are not enough guns on the planet to force most Europeans to work in order that the bankers can be kings.

I have a super neat idea for supermarkets. Instead of throwing out food that is -getting- bad. Its not completely bad when they throw it out. Meat can go bad real easy..

So why not just cook the stuff before it gets bad? it was going to waste anyways. And feed the homeless with it. I'm sure some people in the community wouldn't mind firing up the grill and cooking free meat for the homeless.

they do give it...if a can is dent or a package is broken they give it away....

if you ask, they will give you food....

they give to local shelters...all do..

this is propaganda form unions so they can seem like they are doing something for the common man....it is actually vile...they just want people to pay their dues and for themselves to be able to rub elbows with the elite....

they are scum and they tell people to get violent and riot......RIOT.....yeah, they care about their communities...

the unions are known for grand theft of public funds and huge bribes....you cant become a union leader without making some one a millionaire.....most people don't trust them.....

this is propaganda....they could have just asked for the food....the store would have delivered a weekly amount to each shelter if they don't already....

Ive been saying since Greece started that Spain is the final straw that will brake the camels back. Italy would be there as well but Spain are in a terrible position. Spanish banks in truth need over a trillion to bail them out. Unemployment is massive and I dont believe Spain can get itself out of this but nobody can bail Spain out. As always I feel sorry for my European brothers and sisters on ground level but trust me when I say its going to get far worse. The truth I believe the Euro was always meant to fail because thos would then allow from the chaos fiscal union and that is what TPTB have wanted since day one, but its a long hard road out of hell and with fiscal union Im not sure whether Europeans would be travelling out of hell or heading deeper in to it.

Good luck Spain and to all my European brothers and sisters. If worse comes to worse head to the UK if we have to have immigration I want my European or those of European ancestory here than the current anti European cultures that they are allowing to flourish.

I agree with this and I also feel that the unions in Spain are way too powerful. Let me tell you about unions they do nothing for the working men and women its all about themselves and all are Communist lead. I was memeber of a Union once until I realised that decisions were being made by a small inner circle at the top and memebers were literally being forced in to agreeing to it. For whatever reason unions seem to seek chaos more than likely so that they can emerge better for it. Dont ever trust unions to do what is right for you, in fact dont ever trust the unions.

I know my history, and Spain now is looking alot like Spain in the twenties when my great grand parents go out. My great grandmother's family owned a large olive grove which was alternatively "liberated" by the socialists/communists, and nationalized by the Phelangists. If you want to know what could happen to spain, greece, and italy in the next ten years, even if the global economy improves beyond everyone's wildest hopes, read the SciFi disaster book by Stephen Baxter called Flood. Most of the book has nothing to do with the subject of this discussion, but the first one or two chapters talks about a near future (2016) civil war in spain between fascists, socialists, Muslim extremists, Christian extremists, and verious ethnic nationalist groups.

The Millitary budget takes up 19% of the federal budget, entitlements take up 43%. So, contrary to what you have said, the person you were quoting was correct. Even during the height of the Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghan wars, and right now, entitlement budgets are expanding at a far higher rate than the military budget. I am however, refering to the U.S. budget, but i do know that the U.K. budget spends even less on the military and more on entitlements.

How can anyone stand by and allow any percentage of their country to starve or suffer, like ritual sacrifices for the greed of the few. EQUALIZE WITH FREEDOM. Find the way to do it in the best way for both things and not the governments way.

I am now going to bed and wlll crying for all these people and all people, I cannot bear that no one get it. People need to stop working, and take to a general strike.

People who have need to sell big homes and create eco farms in such large numbers no government could stop them and start creating energy and food.

There is no reason for it. Earth still is providing. Its the distribution system, the artiificial system killing people.

1 MILLION pounds of Food on 3 acres. 10,000 fish 500 yards compost

Spain are actually leading the way in renewable energy, and if they continue to grow in this area, in the long term this will lead to economic recovery. The chief problem with the Spanish economy if it's dependency on imports, particularly materials needed to produce energy. If they were to mobilise the workforce in a concerted effort to, as you say, create more energy efficient means of growing produce too, then they would be able to release themselves from their trade deficit by increasing their export position in terms of both energy export and produce.

Of course, in large areas of Spain, climate change, is having an impact on the water table, so one way or another, they need to find better ways of using that otherwise useless land. But, either way, I agree with you entirely, and Spain, if it can overcome the water issue, could really turn itself around in this way, and in such a way that would benefit not only the people, but also the overall economy.
