Yea I am willing to sideline the emissions and man made part so that we can examine the potential severity of what may happen in the near future with simple climate change. I think it is bad and getting worse to the extent that it should be mentioned in the news and by politicians more often. Hopefully the collective awareness will drive us to find the truth and be better prepared. I am not talking about preparing for an instant ice age(can't say absolutely no either), but severe weather has such a wide range of effects on civilizations that it would be nice to feel we were all on the same page, because we are all on/in the same boat.

I do enjoy journals such as Nature and Scientific American, and I too thought we could get some good science without the money and politics, but maybe not, since so many are struggling with the economy, including many institutions. I still do not believe we can not get a consensus from the largest group of international sciences NSF.
Although they too rely on funding but geez, what do we have to do to get some objective truth? Is there no altruism anymore amongst professionals?

Those are great magazines.

sadly we used to fund things like bell labs but then it became a bad thing (socialism?) so the USA broke up ma bell and we lost one of the great laboratories. We still have great work being done in Universiteis all over the world. It just isn't as exciting I guess.

Surely there is some objective science to be found these days

You make a good point though, people abide by there providers for the most part, but are there no providers that are altruistic? If we can't believe a scientific consensus, what's left to believe in? A factor that really does make things different these days is trust, or should I say trust lost. I used to trust the gov, schools, history, professors, preachers, scientists, the news.... and now I do not know who I could honestly trust

I just find it hard to believe that there are no independent science organizations that maintain integrity and pursuit of truth and bettering ourselves and planet. Hell let's bring in Neil deGrasse Tyson, I trust him

ETA: So do you think this guy in the OP is dishonest in his statements? I thought he was convincing and represented the latest consensus amongst scientists. Where would you go to find out as many facts as possible surrounding this issue?

I won't base judgement on one video. I'd have to look at the guys history.

Better yet, we are all supposedly critical thinkers here on ATS. Why not create a thread with JUST THE DATA!

Then we can interpret it.

We can use data from all sources. Those with an agenda and those without to determine if bias actually IS going on instead of just basing it on who is funding whom.

That should be fair. That way, the only interpretation would be ours!

What do you say?

I think that is a great idea Beez, but I won't be able to tackle it until after work today. So if you want to start it please do, otherwise I will create one this evening.

Have a good day,
spec

Sometimes it is that simple. Our desire to have things we really don't need is the problem. We are so easily talked into things. Does everything have to look perfect? This society has trained us to destroy our environment to promote economic growth. Simplify life.
