I'm against all gang related bull# that has swept and destroyed America's values for the past two or three decades. I'm sure many of you agree. I guess we need to find a way to tackle this problem and many like it! I know the higher ups could care less and just want to lessen the population by allowing people to kill each other so they can collect our social security and what not. The violence must cease sooner or later!!?

To OP... we have been harming ourselves since the dawn of time. I imagine we were probably throwing rocks at each other before the advent of useful weaponry. It is a shame that it keeps getting worse and people seem not to care. I wish I had the answer for it.

Whats sad is how we constantly look for an excuse / somone / something to blame for our own actions. Violece in movies, rap music etc etc etc is not the cause. The cause is when a person decides to take an action without thinking it through to the end.

Gangs provide the emotional and financial support that is missing in many families and comunities. Then there's exploitation of younger members by older members for drug sales and to act as enforcers at the street level. To solve this problem the USA is going to have to make some pretty drastic sociological changes, you guys up for that ?

I see what you are saying when you say it like that. I don't hold a solid opinion as far as rap being the blame, but I definitely agree that there are folks who don't care that they are destroying themselves slowly. I would even be willing to say that they ARE happy to see it just as you eluded to. But (like I said in my first post above) I am not sure what the answer is to stopping it... and not just in the black community. It needs to stop no matter what race because we are thinning ourselves out quicker by the day it seems like. It would be nice if there was a quick, simple, answer.

Although I agree with you about how an individuals actions should NOT be excused because of the media's use of violence, since violence has been apart of humanity for ages. However, media along with upbringing, and whether or not the family structure in that persons life is sound or not, does play a part in what a person decides. Media isn't the main problem, it's the added fuel to an already lit fire. Still, they have a sense of what's right and wrong, however skewed it maybe, and ultimately it's there decision to comit a violent act or not. That goes for all races.

Also to the OP, your title is horrible It's as if you think black people just started being mad about this yesterday.

Oh no question about it Tsubaki. However, we need to come together and take on this non-sense like we came together in the 60's to get rid of segregation. Divide and conquer is the way to disable any group or groups. If you look at America as a whole we are divided by issues and the black American culture is no different. It's just a microcosom of the whole. This is something we ALL need to realize quick.

You open your thread with a racist title, then end your OP by disparaging people with intellectual disabilities. To be honest, I am unsure any viewpoint you have, given your smallmindedness, would be worthy of serious discussion. Not without you learning a little more about tolerance of other people. And in between you are completely incapable of pasting a link that works so that we can know what the hell you are talking about (other than racism and bashing intellectually disabled people).

I would also like to point out that, as mentioned by XCathdra, your blaming of music and other media for "gang" behavior is cutting all chances of personal accountability off from the people you are referring to. Gang rap and violent media are not the cause of what you describe, they are merely a symptom. There was violent gangs looooooong before there was rap music, movies, and video games.

I grew up listening to varied music from King Diamond to Too Live Crew and Ice-T (remember Cop Killer?) I also watched faces of death with my friends while we ate things like spaghetti and tried to gross each other out. Between me and my best friend, we had about 10 different Faces of Death movies. I was a typical 80's kid. I was washed in violence and porn, like most kids in my time/location.

Today i am a well adjusted father, married for 17 years, fiercely loyal, no police record, and am a CFO.

So much for your theory that violent media begets violence. We could go on and on and on. Yet there was violence long before media came around. I know it seems all logical and stuff.....but it just isn't true. Correlation is not causation.

There is no Accountability in our society anymore. It's become popular to "pass the buck". The reality is, every single individual alive on this planet right now is fully accountable for the state of this planet, and our society as a whole. That's right, EVERYONE, you, you, you, and of course, me! I'm just as culpable as anyone else. Rather then argue about who is (more) to blame, we need to take responsibility for the current state of affairs, and start working at making it better.

I know a lot of decent guys that are embarrassed about things that go on within their own culture , its not surprising.

I'm of German descent, I think my family history is a thousand times worse, but I don't let it get me down!
