Parents of British-born Muslim girl Shafilea Ahmed found guilty of her 'honour' killing

THE UK domiciled Pakistani parents of Shafilea Ahmed, have been found guilty of murdering her by suffocating her with a plastic bag in front of their other children for being too Westernized.

They had clashed with their eldest daughter over her westernised lifestyle and objected to her wearing the same clothes as her white friends, rather than traditional Pakistani dress.

The UK's Independent goes into more disturbing detail.

Iftikhar Ahmed, 52, and his wife Farzana, 49, of Liverpool Road, Warrington, Cheshire, suffocated Shafilea, 17, with a plastic bag in 2003 in an apparent "honour killing".

Shafilea's sister Alesha told the jury at Chester Crown Court her parents pushed Shafilea onto the settee in their house and she heard her mother say "just finish it here" as they forced a plastic bag into the teenager's mouth and killed her in front of their other children.

Crying in the witness box, Alesha told the trial her parents held a terrified Shafilea down on the settee in their living room as the plastic bag was forced into her mouth.

"You could tell she was gasping for air," she said before adding that Shafilea "wet herself because she was struggling so much".

Asked what happened next, she told the court: "That was it, she was gone."

Alesha went on to describe how the other children ran upstairs to their bedrooms in shock and she saw her father carry Shafilea's body to the car wrapped in a blanket.

This is dreadful! How can a parent, especially a MUM do this to her child????? It is not like the girl was being bad and getting into trouble with the law and she was being harshly punished by her parents for it, she was just fitting in to her environment like most kids want to do and they see fit to kill her? WTF?
What happened to a mothers love and protection for her children?
The poor siblings, now traumatised and possibly in fear for their own lives if they do not comply with parental/traditional customs/style. Where will they end up now? That is not freedom.

Because they want the west to conform to their ways, not the other way around. Honor murders are permitted under Sharia Law. This is what you get for letting them in. When more muslim inhabit an area than the indigenous population, you're going to see alot more of this behavior. It's part of their "religion".

Personally i think people that are cold blooded enough to murder people, especially their own children in such a horrific fashion, they should be executed like criminsals the same way they committed the murder so they know and understand what they did to her before they died.

There is a lot of this in the UK, which we know nothing about as its kept within their own community. The parents recieved a recomended 25 yrs? Not long enough in my mind. A pakistani mate told me that there are gangs of asians, that hunt for any of these children that escape from their home (prison). Normally they just say that the child has returned to pakistan ect. Thankfully the body was discovered and a criminel investigation began.

Once again, it comes down to control. Their "law" was made up by sad little men with insecurities. Look into it. It is the exact same definition as a sociopath. Simply translated: Control freaks who think everyone and everything should be their way and only their way. If they want to abide by it they need to stay in their crap hole of a country and stay out of others who are civilized. They need to be made examples of so the morons to follow will realize their BS doesnt belong in a civilized society. You know, where women and children actually have rights and freedoms against oppression.

How widespread is honour killing in the Pakistani community I wonder. I know the Kurdish areas of Turkey are big on honour killings as well.

Been following this case from beginning and so glad that her parents, no her murderers sorry, have been found guilty. I would just like to point out that her becoming "too westernised" mainly consisted of her dressing in westernised clothing and having english friends, to think they killed her because she wouldn`t accept an arranged marriage in pakistan is disgusting, at least justice has been done (although not justice enough IMO)

Money, particularly the exchange rate when they send money "back home" to support their families.

Far more of this happens than anyone can imagine and a lot of it is never "labeled" an honor killing. Instead, woops, the daughter/wife/mother/cousin fell off of a balcony, slipped in the shower, and so on.

Sickening doesnt begin to describe this.

Wonder how long till the Islamic apologists show up to show us all how we are misguided and that we need to understand this is their culture, and therefore we must accept it.

I know many say this time and time again, but heaven, hell, life, is what you make it. Do you really believe there is a place any worse than that which humans make it? We Make life enormously difficult for each other, and in that regard how are you any better than they are for condemning them?

This act is awful, and it truly wrenched my heart today. I can't help but feel baffled by parents of any race, or religion killing their own children. Humanity has taken enormous steps backwards, as far as being evolved/civilized.

I know in Nature some animals will kill their own, but in many cases they will let themselves perish and perhaps provide a last ditch effort of self sacrifice to keep those young alive.

Sad sad times we live in. Keep holding on to hope.

LOL, you do not know these kinds of people. This crap is permitted for them, they are raised believing it is a right and acceptable practice. Her parents will not suffer at all, in their minds she deserved it, you cannot reason with people that brainwashed. That is the kind of insanity that cannot be touched with no amount of medication, or re-education because it is imbedded in their religion. You cannot reason with those kinds of people at all.
