A couple of simple answers to the energy crisis that I have learned to apply in my life:
in winter:

EVEN indoors:

ONE hat

TWO pairs of socks

THREE jerseys and sweaters.

(when really cold, long johns or tights help).

Voila - I am warm especially in the PNW West of the Cascades where it is not bitterly cold for long.

But still, the EASY as 1-2-3 formula above helps anywhere it is cold.

A goosedown quilt or sleeping bag helps - ever been to Innsbruck, Austria?
They stack them a foot high on the bed and breakfast beds - it feels like one is sleeping with angels!

in summer heat:
WHO NEEDS AIR CONDITIONING?

throw a few drops of cold water on your skin throughout the 100 degree days -
grow a maple tree on the West side of your house -
keep curtains closed in the day and open windows and doors at night
drink cold beverages - not alcohol that raises body temperature.

Oh well, one beer can't hurt!

Easy and cheap solution(cheap in the long run), build Thorium plants in ever municipality and decentralize the power grid. Chances are though, that the leftist neo feudalists(they use communism as a cover) want to let the current system rot away till we have to do massive overhauls, so they can sneak in their control freak electric grid.

Any solution that centralizes power is no solution at all.
