Yeah, I noted that above. My main confusion is him referencing the mayan calender. Is that a popularly held mythology in Bolivia? I thought it was more of a rich american hippie thing.

So why doesnt he actually mention any of the reasons you are giving?
He probably didn't think he had to. He probably wasn't expecting some conspiracy nutters to come along and take his words completely out of context.
“The twenty-first of December 2012 is the end of selfishness, of division. The twenty-first of December has to be the end of Coca-Cola and the beginning of mocochinche (a local peach-flavored soft drink),” Choquehuanca told reporters at a political rally for Bolivia’s president, Evo Morales. “The planets will line up after 26,000 years. It is the end of capitalism and the beginning of communitarianism,” he added.

Bolivians are ancestors of the Maya.
The reference to the calendar is symbolic.
“The planets will line up after 26,000 years. It is the end of capitalism and the beginning of communitarianism,” he added.

Well it's their country, they can do what they want.
Or is "liberty" just for people who don't want to pay their taxes?

Again, the guy's actual words on the subject, in reference to '2012':
“The twenty-first of December 2012 is the end of selfishness, of division. The twenty-first of December has to be the end of Coca-Cola and the beginning of mocochinche (a local peach-flavored soft drink),” Choquehuanca told reporters at a political rally for Bolivia’s president, Evo Morales. “The planets will line up after 26,000 years. So, again, who here has taken his words 'out of context'? Defend your statement.
I find it very odd that an official government spokesperson makes references to an American new age mythology, instead of listing the myriad valid compalins with coca cola's business practices.

Yes but the planets do line up, according to the Mayan calendar, on that day. The calendar cycle comes to an end. That is not "pop-culture myth."
They are choosing that day to kick out Coke because of the symbolism of the calendar; ie the end of an era and beginning of a new era.

No. Not symbolic. The planets line up every year. He's making explicit reference to the idea that dec 21 2012 is the beginning of a new era, which is pop new age pholosophy.

Not a day goes by without some feeble-minded socialist offering yet another serving of their delusional lose-lose philosophy. "Lets ban coke and await the mayan enlightenment".

No he did not.

Yes, but he said: "It is the end of capitalism and the beginning of communitarianism,”, so you can see why someone might think he is referring to a form of socialism, right?
Oh, and his political party, the ruling party, is the... wait for it..."Movement for Socialism"
