Tomorrow is September 1, 2012

The topic is what the world looks like by September 1. 2014.

That's 2 years, isn't it?

I am currently doing some writing outside of ATS however, since you have given this advance warning I may go ahead and try to write something on this topic!

It sounds fun!

Putting one in myself. The ideas are twisting around in my head like a snakeball.

(how's that for imagery?)

If you're not gonna eat that, I brought my salt shaker and Texas Pete bottle...

Which, curiously enough, is where we're all going to be in September, 2014!

Open fires and snakeballs, what more could a man ask for when the world has melted down around him?

Snakes are tasty, but I prefer salt-water eels myself.

Hmmm... this could be a story line in itself. Instead of ants and cockroaches taking over in TEOTWAWKI, maybe it'll be snakes and the few survivors will be forced to see them as a primary food source. They are nutritious afterall.

But people have been eaten by turtles. The world is unfair, ever so here on Turtle Island.

I can fix that.

There are two things to always keep in mind for hard times: 1) A wise person will be prepared to move many times during the course of a lifetime, and 2) One should always be prepared to eat anything that doesn't eat them first. Turtles come to mind in the latter case - especially the snapping turtles, which will most certainly try to eat you first!

We won't discuss the dietary habits of swine, other than to note that every rule has it's exceptions, and I know which side of my bread has the butter on it!

I still think that by September 2014, we're all going to be hunkered over open fires eating whatever can't outrun us - and hasn't already eaten US... and that now would be the time to learn how to make a quality archery tackle set out of sturdy sticks and broken beer bottles for them that don't already know how!

Snapping Turtle Stew

2 lb Snapping turtle in pieces
1 Onion, med, sliced
2 c Celery, chopped, incl greens
1 c Lima beans, soaked overnite
3 Potatoes, diced
2 tb Butter
8 oz Potatoes, can
1/2 c Parsley, chopped
Salt & pepper to taste

Melt butter in frying pan and brown turtle meat, cut in cubes 1" or larger, on all sides. Remove turtle meat. Add 2 quarts water and bring to a boil. Return to fire, add turtle meat and all remaining ingredients. Cook slowly for 45 minutes or until turtle is very tender. VARIATIONS: After browning turtle, make a roux with butter then add water. Add 1/2 jigger of good sherry to stew when serving. Add 1/2 C bell pepper, chopped, to veg. mixture.

Mmmm... so yummy. Especially if you've ever gone swimming and had one of those nasty critters latch onto your big toe. If it has happened to you, my next question would be if your toe is still attached to your foot.

Rule for when the SHTF: If it's capable of eating you, it's more than fair game.

Re-reading that recipe, I'm inclined to speculate that the "8 oz Potatoes, can" should read tomatoes instead, having never ever bought a can of potatoes in my entire life.
