Man Arrested in Daughter's Day Care Death

The father of a 3 year-old girl, who was beaten to death, was arrested a day after being named suspect of a shooting rampage at the child's day-care.

Two child care workers ended up being hospitalized with critical gunshot wounded.

Police have not yet said what kelly has been charged with.

DETROIT (AP) - The father of a 3-year-old who was beaten to death during an attack on her day care center was arrested Saturday, a day after he was named as the suspect in the rampage that also left two women hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

An arrest warrant was signed Friday for Bernard Kelly, 37, of Detroit, and he was taken into custody at a home Saturday evening, Detroit Police Officer Jeremy Aguayo said. Police did not release the charges against Kelly.

The warrant came after a woman shot during the Sept. 28 attack that killed Stefanie Belue named him as the assailant, Officer Glen Woods said.

Police initially reported that the 3-year-old had been shot to death, but later said she was fatally beaten during the attack.

Annette Rice, 41, the day care's operator, and Sherita Griggs, Rice's 22-year-old niece, were shot and critically wounded at the in-home day care. Both women remained hospitalized Saturday. Woods would not say which one identified Kelly as the assailant.

Griggs' 4-month-old son suffered a head injury when she dropped him during the attack. Two other children in the house were unharmed.

What are we to do to stop this kind of violence? This story makes me sick!

Stuff like this happens all the time. Lock your kids in the car to get your hair and nails done in the middle of the smoking hot summer. Get shot walking to bus stop. Get raped walking to the bus stop. Crooked politicians and police force making money off of confiscated drugs and all that other great black market stuff.

Why waste our time in Iraq/afghanistan when we got terrorists and more deaths this year in one city then an entire nation in the middle east.

Thats way too good for someone who beat a 3 year old to death! The punishment should fit the crime. It seems that evil will do anything to snuff out the purity that only children possess.
