Fluoride Lowers Your IQ: B.S. Headline of the Week

www.cracked.com

Here's a quick case study on how bull# is born into the world. First, remember that when we're browsing the news each morning to make sure our favorite athlete hasn't gone to jail yet, most of us only read the headlines, or maybe give the actual story a quick skim. You didn't need a study to tell you that, you do it yourself. So if somebody's goal is to push a bull# agenda, all they need is a headline

It's been all over ATS of course - but what is the reality?

as this article points out, once you get past the headline you find all is not quite as that headline would have you think:

Harvard Study Finds Fluoride Lowers IQ

Simple, unambiguous and damning. But then in the story itself, the first thing we see is a quote from the study that is way, way, way less definite than the headline:

"Our results support the possibility of adverse effects of fluoride exposures on children's neurodevelopment."

So now it's the "possibility."

Then they say:

"The children in high fluoride areas had significantly lower IQ than those who lived in low fluoride areas," write Choi et al.

Whoa! OK, now, which areas? Like, is Milwaukee worse than Dallas?

well apparently the areas are India and China.....where ther is toxic fluoride contamination of groundwater that is many, many time shigher than what you might get in your fluoridated drinking water.

And it isnt' actually a news story either - it is a PRESS RELEASE...and who from??

The Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation. This whole thing is part of the bull# anti-fluoride conspiracy theory that goes all the way back to nutjobs who thought water fluoridation was a communist mind-control plot.

People on here complain about the "MSM", and "TPTB" not giving the whole story, etc.???

It may or may not affect IQ, but it has been proven as a fact that it affect energy levels, hormone levels, and in a high enough concentration, is lethal.

I do have to say, I love "cracked" as a factual source though. Classic.

any source can present factual information - by all means argue the content

This article is the control grid snapping back in place. Flouride is one of the most poisonous substance known to mankind.

I guess the EPA are pushing BS conspiracy theories aswell?

has been found to be reduced in regions of the brain thought to be most important for mental stability and for adequate retrieval of memories. It appears that many of fluoride’s effects, and those of the aluminofluoride complexes are mediated by activation of Gp, a protein of the G family. G proteins mediate the release of many of the best known transmitters of the central nervous system. Not only do fluorides affect transmitter concentrations and functions but also are involved in the regulation of glucagons, prostaglandins, and a number of central nervous system peptides, including vasopressin, endogenous opioids, and other hypothalamic peptides. The AlFx binds to GDP and ADP altering their ability to form the triphosphate molecule essential for providing energies to cells in the brain. Thus, AlFx not only provides false messages throughout the nervous system but, at the same time, diminishes the energy essential to brain function. Fluorides also increase the production of free radicals in the brain through several different biological pathways. These changes have a bearing on the possibility that fluorides act to increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Today, the disruption of aerobic metabolism in the brain, a reduction of effectiveness of acetylcholine as a transmitter, and an increase in free radicals are thought to be causative factors for this disease. More research is needed to clarify fluoride’s biochemical effects on the brain.

Fluoride from the ground
And added fluoride to the water is completely different.

Potassium fluoride will get into the water system, yes, that is non-harmful to the body.
Sodium Fluoride is rat poison. Its what they -add- to the water.

Ahh, the anti-flouridationists are at it again. They are the same as the anti-vaccinationists, though not quite as bad as they do not endanger other people's lives by spouting their BS.

Another myth. The fluorine ion disassociates in water. In other words, it doesn't matter what flouride compound is added to water, it breaks down to its basic ion, fluorine. Google it, and stop perpetuating BS myths. And in the process educate yourself.

I only argue the content in that claiming it is a BS headline is right on par with claiming it is a factual one. Both sides of the argument admit they cannot prove it either way. Therefore, to say definitively that it is BS is no different that those that would post the headline that it is fact.

I love how we attack propaganda, with propaganda. As though one kind is better than the other.

Also if it's so good for the teeth why don't other countries jump on the bandwagon?

Which fluoride, though? There are many different compounds of the fluorine ion. Some are poison, some are medicine.

The thing about fluoridated water, though, is that when you add a fluoride compound to water it disassociates to its basic ion, fluorine.

Notice the label on bottled water. It says fluorine, not fluoride. Even spring water contains some fluorine.

As this "breaking news" is presented by a self-proclaimed parody site, based upon a press release as opposed to the Harvard study, I suggest that you may wish to ....

Actually no..

The fluroride mostly used in water supplies is industrial fluroride which is scrapped from smoke stakes. Various coutnries have banned the substance.

Please educated yourself.

As opposed to telling others they are perpetuating myths.

And that's a relatively older study with relatively older data, considering the new studies all point to the health risks of fluoride, includnig calcification of your peneal gland among other things it's a safe bet that fluoride is bad mkay?

At least over and above the levels of fluoride found naturally in waters and other compounds. Not artificially introduced.
