Now people will have nowhere to post their complaints about systems being down .....

Oh, wait, I imagine Facebook is overly busy this morning.

Evidence of what the web will be facing when the SHTF and Twitter decides to pack it in for the day.

No one will have a way of getting word out to the masses of what they might see or experience at the Olympics in terms of a false flag too. Let's see how long it's down and what happens next.

Good riddance.

I don't even use that silly thing. It's nothing more than prying on what everyone's doing.

I mean come on, the World was a better place without things like Twitter & Facebook.

Good post! This may not end up being a huge issue -- it is sporadically up again in the Bay Area, but it reminds me of a few things that I must keep in mind given my geographical location:

1) I am too dependent on mobile technology and the mobile platform (tough to mitigate)
2) Don't be over-dependent on any one medium to receive in-bound media and distribute out-bound content
3) Websites such as these can promote timely distribution of media during times in which certain geographcial areas don't have access to mobile telephony, tv, etc...if you can get online (somehow)

Living in prime-time earthquake country, I try to stay prepared, but have a long way to go before I am up to snuff with the BoB's and kits people in these rooms have established....

But hey -- learn from the best, right?

I don't think anyone can honestly say if the world is better or worse because of it.

It's a social experiment of global proportions.

I think we're in our infancy in reaching towards a technological singularity of sorts.

Right now it's just the prototype phase of seeing how high tech interacts with social constructs.

G+ is pretty cool, because it's much less small-minded jargon, and more about keeping people in your circles up to date with the latest cool happenings worldwide.

Tell that to the citizens of oppressed countries who used Twitter as one of their only means of truthful outbound communications....

Innovation in communiation is critical....preserves free speech and mitigates over-reliance on traditional communication platforms.....

Okay the information comes out ...

Then what happens with most of that information? Good things or is it ignored or what?

I meant in the form of people actually physically interacted with each other.

When I say World ... I didn't mean the government and blah blah!

could this be a test for future events, shutting down all social next works world wide.
lets see if others like face book, reddit and the like go down in the near future.
the reason i say this comes from this in the op's link.

Social media users were already complaining about an earlier outage that affected Google's chatting services. The Mountainview, Calif.-based company said Thursday morning that the majority of users were seeing error messages and unable to use its Google Talk service. The issues were resolved five hours later.

testing shut downs of all social networks when ever they decide to do what ever, happens?
