I have already replied to that question by you in a different form, Yes, because this country's laws are not based on any moral standard.

Interesting, and I respect your opinion. I just think that we, as a society, need to come together on a number of issues. We want to be right, and we want to be just. But people we don't agree with keep getting in the way.

Let me guess, you believe there is only one moral standard that all laws should be based on, and that is the Christian morality as defined by protestant Christianity. Is that correct?

Personally, I am very glad that they aren't based on Christian morality.

If they were, America would be a very different place than it is now.

But that's the thing about America, is that America was meant to be a melting pot. It was not meant to be a country by and for Christians.

Our founding fathers recognized the bad things that a theocracy can do to people, and that's one of the big reasons why they gave us freedom of religion, is so we can have the freedom to worship as we please or not worship at all.

It really saddens me to know that there are Christians out there who are attempting to turn America into a true theocracy based on protestant Christianity.

A perfectly understandable, and commendable position. One I can agree with.

People get confused because you use terms that Christians use.

For example, moral standard is a term that Christians will often use.

If you're not a Christian, you really should avoid using those kinds of terms.

Plus, there really isn't such a thing as moral standard. Morality is entirely relative.

Then what is the point of this thread if you think that way?

Of this thread you mean? The point was to gain some personal understanding of why you all are asking for marriage to begin with, and how that would affect myself and my rights within this country ie: would any rewording remove the possibility of things we would like to see concerning our marriages being placed upon equal footing with jewish ones here, and to figure out why I should or should not, logically speaking, vote in favor of gay marriages within this country.
