The idea is still that government is responsible for all these great things. I'm sorry, that is untrue. Last I checked my tax dollars go to pay for roads. My tax dollars go to pay for education. My tax dollars build bridges. Yes, I DID build that.
Ummm no...WE built that...you did not pay for that bridge...WE did.
You, I and everybody else PAID FOR THAT..It took a government to build it. What is a government??? The pooling of money and resources to do the things we can not do as individuals. Defense, Inrastructure, research.....And thanks for confirming my point...edit on 26-7-2012 by Indigo5 because: (no reason given)
The government works for us.
Our US taxpayers pay for their salaries. Those are our roads and bridges.

Right...thanks for agreeing...the post I responded to said "I built that"...I said no "We built that" and that is what Obama said.
Government is a pooling of citizen resources to do jobs that they can not afford or do by themselves as indivduals...Defense..Infrastructure..etc.
Does being far-right require you to pretend stupidity?

No, the point Obama is making is that we are reliant on Government, that Government is providing these goods and services. It's a blatant lie, I provide it with my tax dollars, I pay for what I use, just like you do. I don't need Obama's handouts to live, because his handouts come out of my bank account.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.

If you actually listen to what Obama is saying in context he isn't saying that people didn't build their own businesses, he's saying they didn't do it without help from government built infrastructure, teachers, family, friends, inspiration, etc.
The idea that someone can call this a gaffe is amazing.
There are real issues, substantive discussions to be had. It seems the media, and by extension the public at large, is content with sitting idly by nit-picking every word Romney and Obama say, reading to deeply into most of it, and purposefully misconstruing some of it to suit their empty political purposes.edit on 27-7-2012 by Titen-Sxull because: (no reason given)

I care what Krauthammer has to say because?

...
why again?
This is the media with nothing of substance to focus on... and once again the discussion must devolve into some kind of grade school nonsense rather than elevating up.
David Cameron has used his first speech as Prime Minister at the Conservative Party Conference to call on the country to "pull together".
The Conservatives' slogan "We're all in this together" is "not a cry for help, but a call to arms", he said.

Crediting govt. with building new private businesses is simply absurd
Our infrastructure has taken generations to build, and has been used for the common good..... and sometimes evil.
No politician takes credit for the govt. when govt.roads are used for drunk/drugged driving
No politician takes credit for the $24K govt. handout given to James Holmes
No politician would tell Manson "somebody else made that happen"
Government doesn't produce anything tangible. It is SUPPOSED to use OUR money with BENEVOLENCE. Therein lies the problem. OUR money isn't enough to satiate the greed, so they borrow huge sums from the MALevolent un-Federal Reserve.
You can tell Barry is squirming
