Perhaps you should look at countries where universal healthcare is instituted. Sure someone not paying a lot of tax gets the same benefits however each person or child gets treated. As a bonus for those paying more they have the option to pay a little extra for private meaning shorter waiting lists and get a tax rebate which works.
I pay tax on my income and have never had a problem with some of it going to those less fortunate. Perhaps its a culture thing.

We pay taxes on our incomes as well. Reading your posts... you make it sound as though your country has all of the answers and that ya'll would never line the pockets of big business, but your country [like mine & others], are far from getting it all right.

People will give [it's a cultural thing, we tend to take care of our own in these type of crisis']. This man and all the others injured will be treated, and be treated very well. As well they should be.

Haha, cultural thing. You don't have any "culture". Christ you don't even have your own language.

Well sir, you seem to have a language all your own. It matches your attitude too, which is sharp and cold.
This thread is about the care/cost/& expense of one persons health needs though.. not a thread on how to put down & criticize at every opportunity. You see how people get so divided on subjects in these threads? That's why all people in all countries have so many issues.. we can't discuss anything without throwing stones.

I wouldn't worry,

When ever their is evil good will rise to meet it.

Watch, Donations will take care of this from around the world.

Its the one bright point in these tragedies; the rush to help after.

That's true. And it also goes to show that we can help each other a lot better and more often then if we wait for our "leaders" to do it.

Maybe Christian Bale or one of those celebrities should pay the guys medical bill. I don't they NEED to or should feel subject to it but it would be a kind gesture. Besides, how much do those actors make a year??? If each of them donated some money out of their lavish lifestyle spending, nobody in foreign countries would be starving.
But hey, I guess they worked hard, sucked alot of D**K to make that much money so maybe they should be selfish.

There are plenty of people willing to give at a time like this. A perfect example is the hundreds of thousands of dollars given to that bus driver that was caught on tape being abused by children.

Despite what some would have you believe, there is no need for government to take money from people at gun point in order to help others.

This was a high profile incident.
He'll probably be OK - unlike the many thousands under the radar who suffer every year. Something is broke with the American system and it needs fixing.

there is no way it should cost up to 2 million dollars. I could buy 6-8 houses with that money.

there must be some money going into someones pocket, some sort of corruption.

here in australia there is no way it would cost that much, especially with medicare. the government would go broke paying these big bill for us tax payers with all the people in hospital every year. when the government has to pay for something they get frugal and dont want to give more than they should to hospitals and they do things as cheaply as possible. the same surgery would properly be only around $200,000 or less.

when hospitals are run as a money making business they will inflate prices to maximize profits, $50,000 dollars for bandages or $250 for photo copying, $10,000 for hospital meals. but government when they have to pay would get in trouble from the tax payers if they found out that they were paying these crazy prices for these items so instead they pay the real prices. and hospital are run more efficiently to cut costs, just the bare minimum to get the job done.

no one can run a service more cheaply than government, they have no choice for fear of backlash or looking like bad economist when they run for relection. it looks good if they can run the economy well and not over spend, stay within budget.

its weird, in the US people are afraid of government health care, afraid of the government giving some tax money back to you in the form of health needs, but your happy to see politicians spend the tax money on themselves on pay rises, cars, perks. here in aus we are always keep our politicians honest and make sure they spend those tax dollars on services we need and want. it works most of the time. we want something back for all the tax we pay. but you seem to be all about everybody paying their own way and the government doesnt pay you for anything because that would be sort of communism. instead your giving politicians permission to waste your tax dollars on themselves. why pay tax unless you expect something in return, thats why you pay tax to get services payed for including health.

i love the US but just expect more in return for you hard earned tax dollars. make sure they give you the essentials and dont waste it.

All the victims should band together, get a top lawyer and sue the hell out of the theater owners - who should have public liability insurance.

A midnight showing......and no security guards? Now the theatre will have to pay the price and quite rightly so.

Well look who it isn't, it's the resident fake Special Operations soldier!

Did you single handedly take down some nuclear arsenals today? Or was it one of those days you like to spend talking to the floor or whatever else you like doing in your mentally sick life?

As has been pointed out in several posts, lawsuits will no doubt be forthcoming. From what I have observed over the years from people I know personally, lawsuits are a common way for Americans to help recover medical expenses (from an accident or health situation caused by another party) not paid by their insurance.

With this system of private health insurance (especially where there are high deductibles), unpaid medical bills often end up being paid by resorting to costly and time consuming lawsuits. I don't remember seeing this brought up in discussions about the American health payment system.

Here in Australia, our politicians are NOT honest at all. Come on, don't feed the Americans with bull. Why do you think JuLIAR Gizzard is on her way out and the rest of her corrupt ilk? Agenda 21 has already hit Australia hard and fast.

As for our Medicare system, yes it's a vast improvement to the USA however there is a very long waiting list for people needing surgery and some of our hospitals are falling apart due to lack of money for maintinance and new equipment not to mention not enough nurses. There are still some patients having to go overseas for some operations because either we don't have the specialists in that particular field or they can no longer wait on the waiting list. I lost count how many patients die each year while still on our waiting lists.

So far all the people bashing on Christians and Republicans, who do you think is donating the money? It's been widely studied and shown that conservatives donate more money than liberals. They give more blood, donate more time, and donate more of their income. So enough with the name calling.

Are you telling me this kid couldn't afford health insurance? Or he didn't want it? There is a difference. If I don't buy auto insurance and get in an accident will you all donate money for me to buy a new car?

Is it fair? No
Is it the way a for profit system is? Yes.

I was in a car accident that was the complete fault of the other driver who hit me at 50mph(or more) while texting.

I am getting ready for a second surgery.

Until I settle, I have to shell out money to cover my medical costs. THEN
when I do settle, I have to reimburse what costs my insurance company DID cover.

How is that remotely fair?
