Being an Indiana native (born and raised an hour north of Indy, going on 30 years), no weather here surprises me and I chuckled at the thought of using Indiana as any kind of gauge for winter. Maybe living here so long as made me cynical about it. When I was at Purdue, we'd always tell the out of towners that if they didn't like the weather to just wait 5 minutes.

Last winter, there were many people who couldn't pay their heating bills because they were over a hundred dollars higher. The state had to help out with that. I'm not surprised people are expecting it again, I just hope they have (well, at this point had) the sense to be ready for it this time...

I sure hope so. December of '89 had a large low in the Atlantic that was there for about a monrth, some called it an "artic hurricane" and it was responsible for some of the best surf Florida has ever seen.
