Penn State's football program has been banned from the postseason for 4 years and will pay a $60 million penalty as part of a wide-ranging set of sanctions in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal, the NCAA announced Monday.

Penalties given to Penn State include:

1) A $60 million fine which will be used as a fund to endow national sports programs for victims of child sexual abuse
2) A 4-year postseason bowl ban
3) A reduction in initial scholarships from 25 to 15 per season
4) All Penn State wins between 1998 and 2011 will be vacated
5) A 5-year probationary period

This is worse than the death penalty that SMU received back in the 80s. This will make Penn State unable to complete for at least 8 years.

Players are already jumping ship and transferring.

GOOD.

This should teach these towns that revolve around Sports teams.

In theses cities their athletes and members of the athletic clubs run everything.

The level of "protection" College and pro athletes get in their home town is absurd.

The man was raping little boys and they covered it because he was a good couch, pure bs.

Good.

Did you expect less? This was a travesty that went on for how long? Penn State needs to be made an example of. NOTHING will get these innocent children's lives back. They have to live with what happened to them, regardless if they get paid, regardless if sanctions were put in place.

Pointless.

Those responsible for aiding and abetting child rape, and/or conspiracy should be tried for those exact crimes, not punched in the wallet.

No dollar amount of penalty to the university or its football program addresses the REAL villains, those within the power structure of Penn State and Second Mile who aided and abetted child rape.
