"ANA troops, acting on a tip-off from Pakistani authorities, intercepted a fuel truck as it was entering Kandahar city late on Thursday.
With the help of U.S. military sniffer dogs, they discovered it was carrying explosives powerful enough to ignite the cargo.
Provincial governor Yusuf Pashtun told reporters
the truck was carrying 60,000 litres of fuel. "With such a huge tanker being exploded, and
especially if it was done in a populated area, that would have been totally catastrophic."
Pashtun said Afghan intelligence had information about a truck bomb and two car bombs in or around Kandahar city, but only the truck and one car
packed with explosives had been found.
Afghan commander Abdul Ghafur said the authorities had arrested three Pakistanis who were in the truck which had travelled from Pakistan's port city
of Karachi."
