Gun laws in the USA,,,

My thoughts.

Our gun laws are stupid.

1. I m for the second amendment. We have the right to own guns for a reason. TO stop the government from terrorizing their own citizens. ie... england, okinawa or just about any place where the only people who are allowed to own guns are the military or the police.

2. Full auto ban I can accept.

3. States that ban a magazine or weapon from holding more than ten rounds are lame. I live in california. I think bullet buttons and ten round magazines are BS. there is no logical reason to think that a ten round magazine is any less dangerous than a 30 round magazine.

4. States that ban guns simply on the way they look are stupid. In california AKs can only be sold with a rifle butt and stock but ARs can have a normal hand grip instead of a rifle style stock. THats stupid. I often ask people at gun stores why is this rifle legal but this one is not. They fire the exact same round, they have the same performance specs, they have the exact same amount of ammunition capacity. SO why is this gun illegal and this one not. Usually its because the dip S that made the bill to ban said weapons were simply thought one rifle looked more intimidating than the other and so have banned said rifle. Pure ignorance and stupidity.

5. More people own guns than the general public know about. I'd say it's close to 1 out of 5 people in a typical room. A lot of them women.

6. Most of the people I've ever taken to shoot a gun for the first time loved it afterwards and are now totally all for guns.

7. A knife is a hell of a lot more lethal than most guns. We should ban kitchen knives for the amount of homicides a year committed with them.

8. THe 50 cal is banned in california but the 408, 416, 338 and 300 WinMag aren't what gives. Some of those rounds out perform the 50. So why only ban the 50 cal. Oh yeah ignorance.

9. I've taken british citizens shooting before. THey have no exposure to firearms really over in england. They were nervous at first to be firing a real gun or rifle but then quickly got into it and completely enjoyed the experience wanting to do it again and even making sure they got plenty of photos of them shooting to make their friends back home envious. I feel if the laws changed in the UK plenty of the british would fall easily into the gun culture and be as supportive of the right to own firearms as the US feels.

10. I can kill people in plenty of worse and efficient ways than a gun. I live in LA. we have castor bean plants growing all over the city naturally. THey grow from gutters. in side yards, on parkways, in backyards, in city parks. Their latin name is ricinius. Because thats where Ricin comes from. You know the chemical used for chemical warfare. The same one that the crazy Moon Sect Cult or whatever used to kill all those people on that japanese subway a few years ago. How bout I pry open a manhole cover and sprits some of that into the water supply. But guns no they're the real problem.

OK so there were 9,146 gun related murders in the US in 2009, total murders 15,241

39 gun related murders in the UK, total murders 648

The questions i want to ask is this an acceptable price you pay for gun ownership. Why is the US so obviously a violent place to live ( not the worst i know but the statistics aren't great)

What can be done to lower the murder rate ? or should we all just accept it.

The u.k is MUCH smaller then the US.
Its not like they are going to get off. They are going to go to prison. Witch brings up another point, prison just makes people more violent. Should we really be throwing a much of horny gang bangers in the same place? just push them in the corner?

US pop = 310 million
UK pop - 60 million

Stats are not precise but close enough. UK still has a much lower per capita murder rate, and your point is ?

You also need to put this numbers in a per capita context, figure those numbers by population and adjust them to match the American population.

I would be curious to know what the mused rate was for all of western Europe since that would be closer to being a relative population.

Different gun laws in each european country so the figures would be misleading.

Per 100.000 people the UK has a total murder rate ( all causes) of 1.23. The US has a rate of 4.8.

The question of what would happen if some law were passed to confiscate all guns. I think the police would have a very difficult time enforcing that law. One most citizens who own a gun have far superior weaponry than the police. Your a cop, with a pistol or maybe a pump shot gun or AR and you want to confiscate the .338 some civilian owns and has in their home. Good luck. Body armor. Won't help. Hiding behind squad car. WOn't help. Shooting with no effect you're little pea shooter won't help. A helicopter won't help. You would literally need a cop with another large bore rifle who is a crack shot (good luck finding a normal cop who is a crack shot, or can even shoot straight) and can magically predict where said individual is in the house. You really want to approach a house where there is a good chance a 338 is trained on you? No cop will go for that. They will stay in their squad cars and write traffic tickets instead. Also thats just one house. Got 1 more for just this block. Would be literally impossible to disarm the US population.

A cop walking door to door trying to confiscate guns from people who are far better armed then them is suicide. No cop will go for it.

Yes actually. I was in a sex shop (don't laugh, it was a classy one...I was with a girl...I wasn't there to buy porno...I swear) the other day and saw a brand of lubricant called gun oil. I asked later some marines about gun oil and uhhh... other uses. Yep. they use it for personal lubrication sometimes too when deployed.
