Warner Brothers Worried About Sales Not Deaths

www.latimes.com

Among the many challenges facing Warner Bros. in the aftermath of Friday's deadly shooting at a Colorado screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" is what to do about a key scene -- involving a bloodbath at a movie theater -- in its next big film, "Gangster Squad."

Warner Brothers seeks to cover their sales more than cover for the deaths of the loved ones.

The removal of the Ganster Squad trailer from the movie theaters around the country is a wise move on part of Warner Brothers. But the movement to do so also shows another side of the Hollywood giant in protecting its name and assets.

Even though as the cancelation of the France Premiere shows another act of wisdom and grace. Everyone knows the one thing and opening weekend is meant to be about. Box Office Turn Over.

Given that opening night the Dark Night Rises gained around $30 Million in sales it would be a wise choice for the studio to protect its biggest block buster asset. It is said that this is one of the most profitable late night sales of all time.

Given the wake of the shooting it is defiantly going to be up to the Warner Brothers Studio to prove that Opening Weekend Sales is the least important objective.

Given the movie is possibly worth in production costs around $400 Million recovering from this will be a feat.

I am still not pleased with how Warner Brothers has not released anything on their main site or the Dark Knight Rises site about the shooting and their intent to help the families.

Again people around the world often have the discussion should the movie be canceled opening weekend for reflection and prayer for the victims and family members, while others could care less and just want added security at the movie theaters.

Warner, the movie and the theater owe nothing to the public. This was domestic terrorism and had nothing to do with seeing batman or madagascar 3.

When you mix stupid people with the easily availability of guns you are going to have shootings.

To be fair if they kept the Ganster Squad trailer in the movie, there dammed, and if they removed it there dammed.

It's a no win situation for Warner Brothers.

While I agree that Warner is in no way liable for the tragedy; I firmly disagree with this being terrorism of any sort.... this was a criminal act... but that doesn't make it terrorism anymore than Columbine was terrorism, or the D.C. sniper, or any number of mass murder events by hopelessly broken people.....

It is a shame that people are being indoctrinated to think of every act of human brutality as some kind of 'harbinger' of institutionalized evil. It may be too early to say so definitively... but it is unlikely that this was a massacre intended to 'teach a lesson' in the manner of twisted political terror.

Soon the yellow journalists will be peppering the airwaves with talk like that.... which may be why some sick people don't get help... they get arrested instead... (where they learn to be more effective monsters.) Who knows? Maybe the media will agree with you.... I'm not ready to.
