Coolest thing I've seen in a LONG TIME - V Motion Project

You can now create dubstep with your body

This is literally one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time. I love music, I love making music and I love dancing to music.. but dancing to MAKE music?..

The V Motion Project could be the future of music. The visual instrument was collectively created by musicians, dancers, programmers, designers and animators from Assembly, a company of aesthetic thinkers. The program uses XBox Kinect to capture movement and translate it into music. Your movements are then projected onto a gigantic screen so you can see exactly what your Matrix-style conducting looks like.

This is probably one of the cooler things I’ve seen in a while. While my awkward body movement might result in a lopsided, confusing electronic track, the guy in this video looks like an electronic wizard.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band are certainly fun but I predict this electronic music-dance program to be the future of your foreseeable Friday nights (whenever they turn it into a convenient XBox game of course).

There is another video at the link.

I think I just made a mess in my trousers..

Then I believe you should get out a little more!

Only kiddin... Looks pretty good, I do like me a little dub step. And as much as I dis-like microsoft I can see this being eaten up by the xbox crowd. Still not enough for me to buy one though...

I've got to say. I'm seriously let down. The title got me excited but this doesn't live up to the expectation.

I believe the kinect does work on a desktop? So I don't see why you can't...

At the end of the day this is only very basic motion tracking, it should be able to be achieved with any camera. Not sure why this would even need kinect.

OP, thanks for sharing! was really awesome, you get a flag from me

the kinect is pretty amazing technology. you can do almost anything with it,
and regardless of what one's personal opinion of microsoft is, i think it's pretty cool that they
developed this and encourage people to find new and exciting ways to use it.

Been there done that...
Nothing more than activating samples
by breaking sensors...

You know Jean M Jarre did that in the 80s i think,
with laserbeams...But i also think HE, actually
CREATED sounds by breaking them...

Nice application of anyone can create music with next to zero skill or effort!!!

The results are emotionless, soulless and devoid of any real musical content....

However learning to play... I mean really play allows you to totally express yourself without limitations... The only thing is you have to put in some effort and time in learning..... The results speak for themselves....

Watch this with my warmest regards,

Best advice I have ever heard!

And yes I am a composer that does use technology but not to sacrifice the music as is clearly the case in 90% of modern music.

Peace,

Korg.

I dont have any problems exploring the potentials in technologies.
But if you could have 3-10 ppl hook up playing an ACTUAL instrument
like that, NOW THAT would be cool..

One guy activating samples and loops isnt cool...Its OLD NEWS
