Hey I just realized Karl Rove said something about not announcing the VP before the Olympics, because something "captivating" could happen that might steal the attention off the announcement.

There are MOD warnings that this isn't a gun thread and to take talk about guns to the relevant threads.

Violent movies need to end.

Yes, because making choices for the general public sure will put an end to public violence, won't it?

Violence in films doesn't have an effect on most people, it's only a small percentage (mentally ill) that are effected.

You remind me of some other poster who was in some thread a few weeks back talking about drinking & driving. His 'brilliant' idea to end drinking & driving was to make alcohol illegal. What I'm saying is, why should the majority suffer for the actions of a small percentage of twats?

because the small percentage of twats do the most harm. If films were not able to manipulate people then why is so much spent in advertisement?? maybe because it motivates people to do certain things.

I would not suffer if there were no violent movies to watch. HOw many people do you know who would suffer from the absence of violent films? and if you would suffer from not seeing violent films then you have bigger problems. ... because you are probably a twat who would pull something like this off.

all violent films do is glorify ways to commit violent acts.. how to advertise them.. thoughts and ideas of a violent nature... kinda like you advertise coco puffs so people consume it.

there shouldn't have to be laws to end violent films it should be common sense that such things should not be advertised.

Implying that films manipulate people.
Implying that films are intentionally telling people to commit horrendous atrocities.

I've been watching horror/suspense films since I was around ten, and I have never had the urge to kill/horribly injure somebody. I haven't even been in a goddamn fight for almost 12 years, and that was in defense of a friend. As a matter of fact, I barely watch those kinds of films anymore. I grew out of them years ago, and they had absolutely no effect on me.

Sure, you personally don't care if a certain genre of films is banished, but that's because you had no interest in the first place. What about the people who do? I personally wouldn't care much either, but you're looking at it from a subjective point of view. I'm trying to be fair and objective about it.

Why do I have the feeling that 20 years from now you'll be one of those people standing in front of a concert venue with a placard that reads "My kid listened to this band and failed every class in school." PEOPLE are to blame for their own actions, not films/television/music etc.

I haven't been able to keep up due to work, I hope someone can answer the following:

I read elsewhere that his dad was a military man, is this true?

Has he disappeared recently?

Has he been in a mental institute within the last two years?

Have any of his acquaintances come forward? If so, how have they describe him?

Has the story about the person getting a phone call been cleared up? If so, who was it?

Has a defense attorney been named?

Were there any reports of additional gun fire from other directions?

Did anyone see his face in the theater?

Why would anyone be surprised or automatically think cover up if some of the first information was reported wrong.

The media does makes errors in reports, news reporting changes as facts are gathered.. In a crisis some things can be judged wrong or people can make incorrect conclusions.

I would be more concerned if every thing was said to be known and clear from minute one.

I don't think his mom said he did it. I think they called her and asked if she was the mother of the shooter, and she said "you have the right person" Probably woke up out of a dead sleep and then her quote was taken way out of context. IMO

This seems like coincidental ammunition to put an end to the 2nd amendment (no pun intended). I know it was a haneous crime, but with trayvon martin still being brought up in the news, most of the general population operate with a pathos approach to problem solving; get riled up and put an end to a constitutional liberty to eliminate non-existent fear of the unknown.

Because the police and other agencies release the information, but it usally goes through a vetting process befor it is released.

So any instant information coming out at first is circumspect or coming from eyewitnesses who are not reliable half the time.

New here.....

Has it been discussed yet the fact that the "suspect" had recently given a student lecture about Cancer, and possible cure? Could he have been told he would never be able to go public with a cure and that pushed him over the edge? Could he have been set-up to make sure his new discoveries never come out?

First, I agree with you, they shouldn't be banned merely because someone went off the deep end, but it's a good idea to remember that people respond to different stimuli as individuals. For instance, serial killers are pretty well documented as having started with pornography at very young ages---but so do almost all boys, for that matter. Kids are curious, and they will get their hands on things that's not appropriate for their age.

Still not unsettling?

Alcoholics. Heavy drinking plain runs in some societies, like Cajun Country. Only a percentage of them are outright Alcoholics--people who cannot stop, once they touch the bottle to their lips. But to find out that you are an Alcoholic, you've got to drink.

So, to find out that you enjoy mass murders on the same level of Alcoholism, you either have to start killing people, or vicariously enjoy reenactments through movies, video games, ect.

And just like Alcoholics, if you were never exposed to it, you might not know the monster that you could be. Seriously, there are potential Alcoholics out there that will never know that they would be that dependent on the bottle.

Sure......i guess anythings possible....but.....what would be the motive behind stopping his cancer-curing discovery? This idea was way outta leftfield.

I'm not denying that there are mentally ill people out there who take pleasure in reenacting what they see in films. But what I'm trying to say is that films aren't entirely to blame. The last time I checked, violence had existed long before televisions and cinemas. Violence has always existed, and probably always will exist, regardless of television, films and music.

In case you aren't aware, there is much profit to be made by pharmaceutical companies through things like chemotherapy. Much more profit than would be made by a simple cure.

Illness is an industry. Sad but true.

Yah but now most sources on this element of the story are gone, they know it doesn't make sense so they are taking steps to eliminate the originating sources. If in fact Eric Hunter did try and prevent holmes from entering the theatre he would have had to to try to hard as once that door closed over it would have been impossible to open it from the outside, unless he shot the door open, which no reports lead to that being the case.

Also if Eric Hunter and his friends were trying to prevent him from entering through that door that would mean that shooting would have already started and holmes would have gone back out the door to possibily rearm or reload which from eye witness accounts is not the case, he came in once and exited once. So why is this story being fabricated, because someone opened that door for him, and by definition two people make it a conspiracy, they want this story to be one lone psychotic gunman.

one of the stories in that search came up with a story that says 23 year old Eric Hunter is the person who held the door closed while the gunman banged on it for 10 seconds. He then let the door go worried the gunman would start shooting through the door. Has this guy been interviewed or mentioned at all????????

EDIT: This link says he was interviewed by Shaul Turner with channel 2 news

So according to that article he exited to get more ammo from his car and this Eric Hunter person held the exit door closed. But that doesn't really make sense because the exit door should lock from the outside. UNLESS (and this would make sense to be true), if the fire alarm is pulled the door no longer locks from the oustide. The article states they called 911 and "pulled the fire alarm" about the same time Eric was holding the door closed.

I could see how fire code might require that the lock disable once the fire alarm is pulled in order to allow access by firefighters. hmmm

Do you have a link to that report?

So far most reports are saying his research was on micro RNA and behaviour.
