Another reason for vaccines

ATLANTA (AP) — The U.S. appears headed for its worst year for whooping cough in more than five decades, with the number of cases rising at an epidemic rate that experts say may reflect a problem with the effectiveness of the vaccine.

guess we gotta get our kids vaccinated for this now...

SOOO many vaccines.

Now this I sure didn't know....

Pertussis Vaccine Protection There is high pertussis vaccine coverage for children nationwide. However, protection from the childhood vaccine decreases over time. Preteens, teens and adults need to be revaccinated, even if they were completely vaccinated as children.

Also, pertussis vaccines are very effective but not 100% effective [PDF - 140KB]. If pertussis is circulating in the community, there is still a chance that a fully vaccinated person can catch this very contagious disease. When you or your child develops a cold that includes a prolonged or severe cough, it may be pertussis. The best way to know is to contact your doctor.
Centers for Disease Control - Whooping Cough Vaccine Info and More

I wasn't aware it faded like that or that a vaccinated person can still get it. Oh...Not the warm and fuzzy kind of tidbit to find.

Is there any actual evidence for this increase or is this just big pharma boosting its profits again?

Maybe - might be - could be's - are not evidence.
I posted this in another thread recently. Notice how the title is worded.
"seem to be making a comeback"
Either it is or it isn't, when they say "seem to be" they are trying to scare people.

if you would read the article provided...

Nearly 18,000 cases have been reported so far — more than twice the number seen at this point last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday. At this pace, the number for the entire year will be the highest since 1959, when 40,000 illnesses were reported.

the evidence is - nearly 18,000 cases, over twice the number this time last year...

the rest is an estimation. get over it.

From the OP's link:

Some parents in California and other states have rebelled against vaccinations and gotten their children exempted from rules that require them to get their shots to enroll in school. Washington state has one of the highest exemption rates in the nation. But the CDC said that does not appear to be a major factor in the outbreak, since most of the youngsters who got sick had been vaccinated.
