In a societal collapse a city is the most likely place to meet your end, best to get out. Hide during the day, travel in the wee hours, bring only what can affect your survival, and arm your self as best you can. If the crisis has been ongoing for an extended period then food and water are everybody's priority, you can't trust anybody except your buddies you may be traveling with, avoiding people at all costs would be advisable. In a rural area you need to be just as careful and stealthy. Lighting a fire at night can be a calling card for attackers, indeed lighting a fire anytime has to be done with extreme care, the 'dakota' method is worth looking up but it could still attract unwanted attention. My plan if something really bad happens is to get to the coast and there are uninhabited islands near where I plan to go, I'm going there, plenty of food to be had and you can see anybody headed your way. On my list of gear is a good knife, a tarp, a tomahawk, a tinder box with a few different options for starting a fire, sleeping bag, a steel canteen so i can boil and purify water, catapult, as much cordage as I can find, a headlamp, a first aid kit. There's more stuff I need to add to that like a sewing kit and some fishing gear and a compass, but it's not a lot and I can travel light enough. Bottom line is if your stuck in a city you're in trouble.

These are all great ideas and i defiantly need a scanner and a gas mask...the only down side to the mask is its size! The pack i have is medium size and i dont really want a larger one if i can help it.

Where can you get wind up battery chargers? they would be great. I have a small basic Nokia phone (dual sim) which for the money is fantastic and the battery lasts ages.

E

the cool thing is you can just tie it onto the back of your pack and not have it in it as masks normally have straps or you can get them with straps.

this is a good link. www.windup-products.com...

Also one thing i forgot to mentions was a GPS device and iodine tablets.

I've been thinking is the country really the best place to go when TSHTF?
If your in the U.K and in the city, everyone will be fleeing to the same places. And your only going to find trouble as country side communities defend there area.

Im making plans for extended survival in the city, i've started with noting were all the sorting food warehouses are(mostly outside the city but not to far in my area). The common person will be hitting small shops and supermarkets. I think going to the source would be safer.
Problem with that is, i see the only way of transporting enough food is to use a vehicle and that would only be an option in the first few days while you can use panic as a cover. After that a vehicle becomes a target.
My endgame would be countryside and i have loads of literature on farming and wildness survival and what not. But reading about it and doing it are two different things thats for sure.
As for defense i really haven't made any advance on that. Since im in the USA now and can buy guns legally it hasn't been a big priority as i still think i have time.

Also has anyone got a hiding place for any incriminating evidence and valuables. just incase of raids from rogue military authorities?
You can't really expect to fight them so playing along is all you can do. I made finding a accessible but well hidden(smell proof also) place a top priority i don't want all my food stores raided in this fashion. So im going to make it a habit of only ever having 3 days worth of food and water in my place at any one time.

i feel like i just had a good ramble hope i contributed to the thread lol

It's good and all we have places to go and things to carry
P.s don't forget a porno mag lol

But in saying that right what if an invation happens? Worst of all a new world order! A full government lock down?
Everything will be still in place as it is today but much much worse. Then what ?

Look I like to be ready for when shtf also. I'm fit have weapons know abit of everything more like a riped up encyclopedia lol

It will happen to you guys faster then me but what if? Look at china No facebook and filtered Internet no freedom of speech so on so on.

What will be the plan then?

You make so good points there, I think the key to survival is having a place to head to and making good plans now rather than while on the move.

Caches of food and other gear are also a great idea, I have be studying the partisans of Europe under the Nazi rule and how they really pushed there survival skills to the limits and event made counter attacks on the Nazi forces in the area! they started with 5 people and within there time in the woods grew to one thousand strong.

This is sure on its way i think and the world banks start to take over and the nations of the world band together with like minded nations.

The key to this problem is like minded normal people forming units and links to help each other...

One of these chav traps are a must for any uk based SHTF scenario

In a more natural environment this would be considered natural selection and he would have been left there to die a slow death and be food for the wildlife. Oh I miss the good old days before the Romans came to f everything up with their roads! lol

And in response to the OP, gather friends with additional skills. You can't learn everything on your own, and teams survive more effectively than loners. Even if you don't look for skills that people have, in a group of five or ten you have far more security, and far more diverse natural abilities.

Locate like-minded people, or wait until the SHTF. Most people won't believe you when you suggest that people should be prepared, so it might just be better to have a mental list of those you would call on in a SHTF scenario. Most people look for leadership in those times, and those worth having on your "team" will be willing to come with you, those who refuse will probably die waiting for their precious government to save them.

my advice would be to bug-in. There isn't nearly as much land to escape to as there is in the US, or many other countries for that matter, so I think barricading yourself in with supplies would be the best bet for the first few days/weeks.

or just come to the US, where firearms > martial arts

oh one more thing... I would consider learning to wrestle instead of learning how to punch and kick lol...... (90% of all fights end up on the ground)

Im a Brit and although i would love to visit the US i wouldn't wan't live there, i do plan on bugging in for a time but i don't fancy trying to defend this house against the hordes with out some real fire power..

Wrestling is buy far a big part of my training as a MMA fighter i love it and it works great while fighting i agree!

I was thinking last night about running to places
Yes, I have a good idea of where abouts i would travel if things get out of control. But in saying that so would the other couple of million people out there so i was thinking of barricading myself at home but thats not safe at all also
(you can only store so much food and walls can only hold back so much) So i started browsing the web for URBAN EXPLORATIONS (tunnel rats) locations
People do it for hobbies or for fun looking for empty building/tunnels/BUNKERS. There arnt many in sydney but their is a few i thought it might be a good idea checking them out.

also no one ever mentioned to take binoculars with you ADD it to the list

I consider myself a fairly logical thinker and lead a some what normal life here in the good old UK, I live in Yorkshire and have family in Birmingham (big city).

Over the last 6 months after really stumbling upon videos on youtube such as the 9/11 questions, the banking problems and terrorist cells still highly active i have wanted to focus on being ready for anything.
I am now learning the following things to make myself better able to look after myself in the UK when (not if) we take a turn for the worst.

I'm learning polish as i think it will be handy to know.

I'm already very mush a mixed martial artist with 5 pro cage fights under my belt, but fighting under rules in a cage where 99% of the time i'm fighting good people who i would always shake hands with after the fight i realize out in the streets of the UK in WROL places ill have to have fast and maybe lethal attacks to keep me and those around me safe. I'm looking at Krav Maga as a training style as it is very dynamic and has weapon drills too.

Also i'm building a a really well thought out urban/outdoor survival pack, this is still a work in progress but i'm pleased so far.

I'm building a new routine when i work out to get my cardio and grip strength and stamina to new levels using the climbing frame at the gym (hanging off bars and ropes etc).

Id love some advice from people who have any ideas on things i should research or learn in order to "be a more effective survivor" post SHTF

E

What kind of workout will make you bulletproof?

Any exercises for radiation poisoning?

If you were in America your best option would be to get as far away from cities and people as possible and hook up with trusted friends in some remote area out of sight. Being in UK I would think you need access to a boat that can sail to a remote area without conflict or fallout.

All the martial arts are useless against armed people or nuclear attacks.

I think if you're rebelling against the government it doesn't matter if you are caught with a gun or not. You are a terrorist to them and you will be dealt accordingly.

That means then everyone who hates the fuel hikes, finds the police useless and the war in Iraq and Afgan illegal and wrong etc there terrorists in your eyes?

terrorist (ˈtɛrərɪst)

— n
a. a person who employs terror or terrorism, esp as a political weapon
b. ( as modifier ): terrorist tactics

No one here is advocating violence in anyway shape or form!!

Being in a group and being ready to survive is not illegal...disagreeing with the way the UK government runs the country is not illegal!

The term "terrorist" differs from the dictionary, especially if you live in the US. You could be in disagreement with the government and be labelled as a terrorist.
