I didnt say they aren't attack helicopters.....

Op clearly left that out, didn't he ?

That was my whole point.

Oh, so you DO grasp that the anti-aircraft systems arent on the helicopters?

Because your post implied you thought they were the same.

Wrong again.

You implied I didn't know.

That's where you were wrong.

Next time, I suggest you wait, before you make your judgement call.

I'm not playing any game. It was your condescending pic. Not mine. You implied that they were sent armed. Not me. This was a contract that Russia is delivering on. You know that. Quit playing dumb, it doesn't suit you.

Wrong.

Op purposely called them Helicopters. Yes that they are. But he left out the the most important part. They are ATTACK HELICOPTERS. Get it? The pick illustrated how easily people like him, and you are willing to go, to deny that fact. Heres more condescending facts........

Attack Helicopter: Between ~70 and ~84
Armed Transport/Utility Helicopter: Between ~106 and ~120
Electronic Warfare/Command Helicopter: Between ~0 and ~10

Syrian Aircraft Inventory

Forgetting the thread title are you?

Russian Ship with Helicopters for Syrian Regime sets sail Again

You can give me as many statistics as you want on the Syrian Aircraft Inventory, just don't be mad that I called you on your bs. They were not sent armed. You implied they were. That is all I was arguing. I don't think anyone is saying these are not attack helicopters. Regardless of what you and your buddy say or imply.

Can we get back on topic please?

Is that your whole posting strategy?

Claiming people "Implied" then they have "Straw man" arguments? It gets very thin very quickly.

Work on it.

Those choppers are for killing. They weren't armed when they were shipped back to Syria. Nobody ships a weapons platform armed. The Russians were looking out for their best interests. In the process people are going to die. Just like when the US/West do the same thing.

Those Choppers will be used to kill armed rebels and innocent civilians as well that will get caught in the crossfire between the two. But, apparently the Choppers that will be doing that killing have a cheering section here at ATS.

I guess my question is: If it is a civil war, can any other countries intervene? If there is no arms embargo, doesn't Russia have the right (not a moral right) to sell to them? I'm not saying I agree with the strategy at all. Is anyone ever going to be happy until the middle east is a crumbling wasteland?

I'm not 'claiming' anything. I'm pointing it out. Your buddy said he thought the helicopters had surface to air missiles. Deal with it.

Where did I argue any different?

Again, where did I cheer for these helicopters? Your straw men are spilling over. Why not just ask why I hate puppies?

That's a little too late now isnt it? But, I guess that all depends on which side one would like to win wouldnt it?

If one supports the losing side the first reaction is to lend support. Assad and his father have a long history of supporting certain groups and activities in the region going back decades now Karma is a bitch. What's the phrase? What goes around comes around. This is fitting in this case. But, off course those apposed will say that's BS then bring up the CIA and or Israel again. Then try to argue but... but... but.... Russia is just looking out for it's best interests as if that justifies it.

Then by that logic, everything the West and or even Israel is or has done is equally justified because that's exactly what they themselves have been doing. Looking out for their best interests

Meanwhile, back at the Ranch, civilians are caught in the crossfire and die horrible meaningless deaths.

If there is no arms embargo, doesn't Russia have the right (not a moral right) to sell to them? I'm not saying I agree with the strategy at all. Is anyone ever going to be happy until the middle east is a crumbling wasteland?

You think this thread is bad about those who want the whole brick S-house to go up in flames you'll love this one

So they can only lend support right? No boots on the ground? I think I read somewhere that no country can intervene if it is only a civil war. I could definitely be wrong though.

Lol.

Here's a hint, genius: A SURFACE to air missile would shoot from the ground, to the air. Helicopters, conversely, tend to shot from the AIR to the GROUND.

Helicopters are not equipped with SAMS.

Now, to pre-empt your ext straw man, no I am NOT saying these helicopters arent armed, and NO I am NOT saying I support Russia, Syria, the rebels, or puppy rape.

This ends todays grade school lesson.

I do know what surface to air is, I was being, how can you say, facetious ?

Lighten up. You dont have to be so serious, or have to be a know it all........

Okay, I joked when they sent this ship back the way it came the first time that the Russians would just drop back, talk among themselves a bit, then coming right back down the coast with a full task force to escort it. Hey.. really.. I was joking! Well.. Half Joking.
I really didn't think he'd do this....

As for the Rebels.. I suppose they have sail time + about 5 is what I'd give for maximum prep and deployment time in Syria. Then, this won't last too much longer. The accounts of those things in combat DO fill books from Afghanistan and geeze.. They are flying Battleships. Small arms? Oh that brings down an American Apache. We like high tech toys... That just pisses off the Hind pilots and then they'll toast the whole village from a few hundred feet instead of just half of it.

Putin has obviously taken sides now...and this is a little battle group as much as escort to a commercial arms deal, IMO. This all gets real when the task force gets on station off the Syrian coast is my thinking.

Well, I'll be... It sure looks like it by that track, doesn't it? I looked back at the OP for the ship name and sure enough... Same boat. Hmm... Don't ya love Sunday news cycles where some update news and most don't bother? This is why ATS is so valuable. Someone ...Somewhere....sees almost everything and then one of them wants to be first to post it.

I haven't finished reading the link yet, just thought I would give it to you.

Russian ship with helicopters bound for Syria turns back

On further reading, I wonder if the Russian warships are carrying the parts and the cargo vessel was just a distraction. They denied this, and then maybe to save face, sent a cargo ship out after? Only to have it return? If they sent it with the warships, everyone will find out sooner than later.

Also found this.

Famous and now Russia-flagged general cargo vessel Alaed left Murmansk and as of morning July 13 is steaming along the coast of Norway, sparkling the flames of rumours and allegations, with regards to her final destination, all over again. AIS indicates next port of call as Baltyisk, situated in Kaliningrad region in Baltic sea. Owner and operator of the vessel, Russian company FEMCO announced on its’ Russian web site, that vessel is sailing to S-Petersburg with ETA July 17, inviting shippers to offer incidental cargoes bound for Vladivostok, Russian Far East, which is stubbornly declared to be Alaed’s final port of call. It’s anyone’s guess whether Alaed will actually call Baltyisk and then S-Petersburg as declared, and not sail to Syria istead, though on the face of it, it seems to be true. Some collateral facts indicate, that the military cargo (notorious helicopters and air defence missiles) is still on board, however strange it may look from rational point of view.

Games within games. I can't help it. This is hilarious to watch at times. I can only imagine Putin got a chuckle out of this arrangement himself. I really do imagine him to be the hands on kind of leader as things are getting serious. Well, no one can say it's boring!
