This is a stroll down memory lane. I remember vividly when this happened and the rumors (on the internet of course) that immediately followed.

One theory is the SS Columbia was on a mission to capture photographs of the incoming body called Planet X. When they were successful in their mission and transmitted the images back to NASA, they (whoever they are) blew up the 'witnesses'.

Another was a preemptive strike from the Middle east targeted at the Israeli astronaut that was aboard.

Another was a UFO strike because the SS Columbia put another space weapon into space.

I mean, ANYTHING made more sense than 'foam insulation' being the culprit. Still does if you ask me.
