CSIS chief supports online surveillance bill, offers to help

www.ctvnews.ca

Canada's spy chief backs the Conservative government's troubled bid to bolster Internet surveillance powers, and has offered to help tweak the legislation to make it more palatable to a wary public.

In a letter to Public Safety Minister Vic Toews, Canadian Security Intelligence Service director Dick Fadden says the spy agency was "extremely pleased" to see the bill come before Parliament, considering it "vital" to protecting national security.

CSIS was drafting "potential options" to strengthen accountability measures in the bill, says the late February letter, sent to the embatt

Many of you may remember the ""Protecting Children from Internet Predators Act" which caused quite a controversy in Canada. It was nothing more than a tactic to be used by our government to spy on us without warrant.

The original supporter of this act Vic Toews received quite the public backlash and even was subjected to the wrath of Anonymous due to his support of this invasion of privacy.

Well, it appears the head of our spy agency is going out of his way to support this bill. He is willing to "tweak" it. But the bottom line is that this is just another attempt to trick the public into accepting this unjust invasion of our privacy.

These control freaks won't stop until they achieve their goals of erasing all our freedom and privacy. All Canadians should be outraged that they are still trying to push this through, with a really lame PR campaign.

Canadians are finally starting to wake up, finally.

I concur.

This kind of crap continues simply because there is no repercussions to pushing through crap like this. The Middle East has had its Arab spring. We need some governmental enemas in the West too. Out with the crap and the poison, and in with fresh, honest people. We need a couple of revolutions against the corrupt tyrants in charge of (insert your home country here).

And preferably, said revolution will end the good old fashioned South American way, with the corrupt politicians in front of a firing squad.

we aren't going to get any fresh honest people, if we continue to elect lawyers and others who've forgotten what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck or to worry about how you're going to feed your children or how long your car will last before it totally falls apart like so many other americans do.

until we start electing the average joe into congress, we will never see anything change for the better in this country.

Canada needs to wake the # up.

We are so far gone that most of us don't even care about this stuff.

I also concur.

These bastards try and accuse us of backing pedophiles because we don't want to be spied on for unjust cause without proper due process.

Their spin isn't working. I hope Anonymous goes after Mr. Dick Fadden just like they did with Toews.

This coming from the guy who got his teenage babysitter pregnant. And then Toews gets all angry when someone posts some personal, but public, info (divorce affidavit) about him on Twitter. He was so up in arms that he initiated an investigation. So, I guess it is only the common folk who need their private lives laid bare and politicians are off limits.

This is the same party of Cons that thought the Long Form Census and Long Gun Registry were intolerable invasions of privacy that needed to be scrapped, yet warrantless spying on everyone's internet use and communications is perfectly acceptable. Seriously, it boggles the mind.

Toews was proven to be the complete opposite of what he represented himself to be, and his beliefs that he preached were not ones he followed.

Most the people pushing this agenda are in the same boat, imagine the dirt that can be dug up on these scoundrels I bet it's infinitive.

But yeah, they are exempt from the same laws that they are trying to promote

We might as well have voted big gov't liberal.............. Harper is not a conservative but what other option do we have with these left wing parties?
The alternative is to elect the ndp who will raise taxes, increase the divide politically, expand gov't, and chase shadows with these pet projects they like to pursue

Oh CSIS..

You are the best spy agency in the world.

I mean how many CSIS agents do you know? And how often do you hear about them? Pretty damn good spies if you ask me.

In any case, of course they want to 'help' make the legislation better. CSIS wants to be the new CIA/NSA type group that has all these powers. I'm sure working with Americans overseas has given them a taste of how easy it is to do your job when you don't have any moral or legal obligations/consequences to your actions.

Good luck boys, you're going to need it.
