Double-edged sword there, one spark and it's bye-bye plane.

It's an alchemy-based technology that one wrong move and the fuel will ignite. Dangerous stuff here.

However, this is all theoretical.

Did you even bother reading the article? This has not a damn thing to do with alchemy and everything to do with using a laser to charge a photoelectric cell to recharge the BATTERIES THE AIRCRAFT RUNS ON!!

No fuel involved whatsoever.... But then you'd know that if you actually read the article.

It's stupid comments like yours that make boards like this a laughing stock.

This technology is for drones not planes that we fly in. Seems that they just invented a way for constant surveillance over the US. Another win for Big Brother.

OMG! how many birds will get cut in half with this?
ok just blind and cook't. this is dangeres and foolish.
Only after the Laser Wepon has been reflected all over will they see how stupid this is.
thats if they are not blind!

ok! I have gone over the top.
but I do have a good point.
untill it is in full use we will Not know how dangerous it is.

oh and a good tip for the designers.
put solar panals on one side.
and give it the ability to fly upside down at night.
and still fully function.

One draw back! Easy Target!
even if they use infrared or ultraviolet.

When a person says refueling, what do you think? You think gasoline, a liquid.

When a person says recharging, what do you think? You think electricity, a type of plasma.

It was the first one that I think. This is the common misconception that people have. This is why it's important to choose your words carefully.

Yes. There was a rocket design that was tested on the very small scale, years ago, that had a curved bottom, and spun really fast. A laser was shot repeatedly at it, captured on that curve, and boosted it higher. The laser was shot very rapidly on and off. It hits the parabola, and causes the air to "explode", each explosion pushes the rocket forward. No more fuel, or rocket motors.

Fantastic method. For those having a hard time understanding the other concept. Imagine the laser being a flashlight, and the electric plane has a solar cell. You point the flashlight at the plane and it gets power. Just think what else they are working on. You can send plasma energy through the air and a double or hollow laser beam keeps the "lightning bolt" on a direct path. It provides a path that the high energy can flow, now imagine the aircraft inside the hollow laser beam. There, your hyperdrive, enjoy it, lovely humans. Forget about making weapons out of this technology.
