Mystery of mass turtle death continues.

MARINE experts are baffled by the deaths of more than 60 turtles that have washed up on Burdekin shores.

About 74 green sea turtles in total have been found either dead or struggling for life at Wunjunga Beach, south of Home Hill, since early June with James Cook University scientists confused by the mystery killer.

They are saying that no one has ever seen anything like this before. such a large amount and mostly females

Probably the weather leading to lack of food.... Seems simply enough to me....

Then why would it mainly be females if it was because of weather and food?
In the news they are saying it could be some kind of toxin

From the ABC NEWS

The green sea turtles are well nourished and almost all adult females. That eliminates the likelihood of the deaths being linked to last year’s [2011] starvation deaths after Queensland’s summer of natural disasters. Authorities are now awaiting toxicology results

that's really sad. so strange that it's mostly females!!!!

Possibly due to water run off from agriculture, pesticides have been known to contaminate the water and cause lots of problems.

Your map shows the area is near a large river outlet. That river should be tested. It may be carrying toxins out to sea.

You could be right. When I first read it and saw the map, I instantly thought about the earthquake we had back April 2011.
