Jamuhn, good work. The source I had doesn't have much more to add that what you already quoted.

And SO, legal authority and actuall ability are two different things. The US illegally went into Iraq (according to the UN laws.)

*edit* ---------- is now down. That was the link with copy of the pics.
*edit #2* ------------- is now down as well.

*edit #3* removed links for good reasons.

What webpage were they after? Couldn't you Google it, and then click on the "Cached" link? Or use the Internet Archive "Wayback Machine"?

All right I'm officially creeped out now. When Skeptic originally started this thread I was surfing various sights on Indymedia and the Swiss undercover agents were on two sights - Italy Indymedia was one of them. I went back to get the link for curme and it's GONE.

Its pictures of the faces of two undercover cops working on a specific job.

The site had not only shown thier faces, but said what they working on.

That is why its being removed from the net. They are undercover and STILL on the job. Its a non-issue if you ask me. I personally have no reason to want to blow thier cover...

Yep, just got to that part. I think this ius downgraded from VAST RIGHT-WING CONSPIRACY to simple over-application fo resources.

And once again, the Indymedia turns me farther and farther away from the 'truth'.

So, the Swiss didn't want their undercover officers identities made public (it would obviously hamper their jobs) so they asked the US to take down the websites?

And the scary part is how they did it (possibly illegally, maybe not, thanks to the Patriot Act), and what were the Swiss undercover cops doing in the first place (photographing protestors? Why?)? And why is the US is doing it for the Swiss in the first place?

Is that it? I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything, or maybe misunderstand. Regardless, I'm freaked out too!

If that is the case, why not instead kill the pics and story off of those servers, as opposed to taking part of a livelyhood away?

If they have the power to take the servers in whole, they also have the power to take only what they feel is privy.

Misfit

OK, so the reason why the drives were taken is known. I would appreciate if the Indymedia would include that addendum in their press release.

That makes NO sense! And the siezure wouldn't hold up in any court!

This whole thing is screwy.

There has to be more to the story than a couple of undercover Swiss cops. If it was all about them - why not just yank the photos? Which BTW I think Indymedia was out of line for posting. It's fine to report there were agents at the G8 summit with the protestors but couldn't they have obscured their identities?

I am more curious about what the Feds think is on the harddrives. Also since Indymedia hasn't been given any information on the raid because the supoena was served on the Host - there may be other countries involved - like Interpol or Scotland Yard. Especially when you consider that it involved UK interests.

Is this related?

Anti-piracy group in Danish net sweep

"As part of a pan-European action against online pirating, the National Anti-Pirate Group earlier today sent out fine notices to 156 Danes"

They also say:

"Similar actions are currently been staged in England, France, Germany, Italy and Austria, bringing the total number of fines - including Denmark's -to 465."

Is it really about anti-piracy...? Or just a coverup for something else. Theyve had lots of "kiddy-porn" raids in Australia too. Seems like they raid computers everywhere, for one reason or another.

Anyway, heres some info. Might be something youve already got.
Scoop FBI Seizes IMC Servers in the UK

At the bottom of the page they got the original photos of the cops...
