Would you rather pay a fee??
I wouldn't.

The ads keep it free so I don't really care if they are there or not.
I could do without the ones that play sound though...thats annoying when I am watching a video and an ad on ats starts playing.

ATS is a treasure chest of information, with many valuable resources.

I'd like to think of the ads as a way to confuse the pirates. In order to find the treasure, which would be the membership, you have to search. Don't be distracted from the goal.

I ignore the advertisements. I don't let them bother me. ATS has so much information to wade through that I actually don't really notice the ads much any more.

Be glad for the ads...they are what keep the membership in ATS free!

One ad did make me save that site to my favorites and start saving money for a purchase. They have some pricey, yet good stuff. The item is not a need, but rather a want.

But other than that, I ignore them after a glance. I give some of them a glance because some of the models are cuties. as I don't wear funny/politically related T-shirts.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

The ads on ATS are based on your browsing habits.

Everybody on the site sees different ads as Google Ad Sense uses various means to give you targetted advertising. It's not uncommon for me to see New York TImes ads because I read the NYT everyday online, or to see ads for various other products from websites I visit throughout the day.

Advertising here works like it does anywhere else. As for the ATS community being swayed by any of it, I would like to think that we are a bit more immune to the advertisers pull around here than your average bear.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

That is a LIE and you know it, i have never seen a single pornographic add and therefore the adds cannot be based off browsing habbits.

Clearly ATS does not allow advertisers to show you porn on our website. Considering the T&C forbids it.

Cute joke though.

This is how it is buddy, ATS is slowly drifting away from conspiracy and moving more towards MSM discussion. Headline news stories is what brings readers in not another Roswell thread.More clicks= moar monies , its simple business. They are giving the masses what they want.
Sometimes they really like to push that conspiracy stuff hard, you will see it form time to time. the chicago O'Hare UFO sighting was a good example, you had bill himself pushing the thread because it was bringing people in. At the end of the day the purpose of the ATS is to bring in the clicks and the cash.

ATS drifts in the direction the membership do.

This is member driven content. The owners and staff of ATS are hardly the ones providing the content. They give you (the memberhsip) an avenue to discuss things, if the membership is creating the content, and bringing a more MSM feel to the website, then that's the memberhship's fault.

Not the owners.

Be the change you'd like to see.

But why would I want to contribute original conspiracy content to a site that is clearly devoted to the regurgitation to mainstream news? There are some really funny people here and that is probably the number one reason why I come back, they tend to deny reality.

The site is clearly devoted to you, the membership.

IF we wanted to do anything else we would be driving content by creating it and not allowing members to do so.

How many of the 6000 posts a day do you think are from staff and owners? 100? Less?

The reality is, at the end of the day, is that the membership is in charge of content and what appears on the boards. ATS simply adjusts the look of the website accordingly.

ATS has only become what it is, due to the membership and of course the Owners had a big part to play in creating this sand box.

I don't know really what else to tell you other than that. If you think ATS is somehow driving it's own content by encouraging some content rather than other content, well you're wrong, cause if it's not covered and forbidden in the T&C, and you'd like to see it, then provide it.

That is exactly correct. I get a laugh every time someone complains about an ad they "see constantly" when they are the ones who caused the ad to appear in the first place. If you visit the Disneyland web site, you will see Disneyland ads here on ATS. If you visit a site selling generators, you'll see ads for generators here. Did you look at a canvas tent to set up at your kid's game? You'll see tent ads here.

The commercial web sites you visit install a cookie on your own computer saying, "Hey! This guy just looked at generators!" When you come here Google takes a look at your computer's cookies and sees the one that said you just visited a generator site. Voila! Let's feed this guy a generator ad! The amount of time you see this ad, called "persistence," varies, but in my experience it is about a month or so unless it gets displaced by something newer.
