What is so wrong with religion?, page 1

My question to all of you.................What is so wrong with religion? There is no restrictions, well most at least. You can go to church then go to the store and steal something. You can leave at any time. You can wear anything you want. Most Mormons don't follow any of their restrictions. Catholics don't follow any of their restrictions. Christianity don't have very many restrictions. Islam is a misunderstood religion because there is two different factions, just like the Baptists.

For those who think I'm wrong at the the religions stated above. I'm not. I know many people in each religion and none of them follow their church restrictions to a "T." For example: last time I went to a Mormon church everyone was asleep. There is nothing wrong with religion. If you don't believe in the beliefs that's fine but most of the time I hear about how restrictive it is. Well I just explained how nonrestrictive it is. I support all of you who do not believe in the beliefs of religion but don't come bashing me because of my beliefs. Just because I choose to have some guidance in my life, there is nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with not having any guidance in life.

Close with one last thing. A true follower of a religion will not try to convert you to their cause every waking moment. Those people are insecure about their faith. The people who are not, will be patient and wait for the time when it is appropriate to say what their belief is.

I am sure that many non-believers or just humans in general do plenty of things they either believe or know are bad, but then manage to justify it in some other way.

I am an atheist, and I put my "faith" in modern science. Science tells me smoking is bad for me, very bad in fact, and a lot of other stuff too, and yet I smoke - and personally I don't see the difference between my situation and someone who believes it is sinful to do something, but does it anyhow.

However, what I consider the real problem with religion is that it is so open to interpretation and it is therefore close to impossible to reach a common consensus about anything. I imagine some might deny this because they are convinced they have got it right and every one else is just wrong - and this is where I, and most other atheist, ask for some hardcore evidence to justify not only why one interpretation is better than the other, but also why any interpretation is necessary.

If you know right from wrong, have morals that dictate how to live your life without impeding on others, are not selfish and willing to share..

Religion is a pointless glove made to fit those who otherwise would be blind to life.

Clerics? What are they? Men? Self appointed or appointed by a conglomerate of like minded miscreants, by any other name.. still men, and given power to tell you what you need to do.

You don't need to pray 5 times a day. Go to church on sunday. Pray before bed. Eat fish on Friday. Fast for a month. Whip yourself with barbed chains.

You won't get into a grave any different.

I mean still we can find some remained truths among these altered monotheistic religions. especially those that are common among them. and rational. for example Quran says there is only one God and Jesus is alive the same you can find in gosples. although you may misunderstand those part of gospels that Jesus is the God.
or for example all of them are against lie, stealing, adultry, homosexuality, and for praying.
nowadays there are many scientific evidences that praying can have significant impressions on diseases and ...

But this is exactly the problem I pointed out in my first post. There is no way to come to a common consensus with religion. You might say that your interpretation is right and every one else just doesn't get it, but you have yet to present my with any evidence to that, and personally I don't see how there could ever be such a thing.

I do not disagree with you on the fact that there are some good ideas and philosophies in various religions, but it doesn't give you any tools to tell them apart from the bad ones.
